Town Council for Ampthill in Bedfordshire Ampthill is situated in Mid Bedfordshire, with a population of approximately 7,000 and 3,150 households.

The Town Council (formerly Ampthill Urban District Council) has been a Successor Town Council since April 1974, pursuant to the Local Government Act 1972. The Council comprises 12 members and meets regularly at the Council Chambers. Opening Hours: 9.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and to 4.00pm on Friday. Closed for lunch from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.

The Community Cafe were pleased be the first official appointment for our newly elected Town Mayor Cllr Gary Summerfield and Mayoress Sue Summerfield.
Although it was very hot we had a great morning with entertainment by Pauline, singing and dancing, and of course coffee and cake.

At the Ampthill Town Council meeting last night, Cllr Gary Summerfield was elected Town Mayor for 2026/27 and Cllr Julia Jones as the Deputy Mayor. The Council wish them a successful year ahead.

Get ready for an interactive storytelling extravaganza where children create a brand-new tale through imaginative play. Experience an enchanting journey where you’ll embark on a thrilling adventure, encounter captivating characters, intriguing places, and magical creatures.

What will happen and where will our travels lead us? It’s all up to the audience…🎭☀️

The Pride Picnic will be located between the West Car Park and The Cricket field. You can access the car park from Woburn road.

No need to book, just come along and join the fun!

Community Archaeology Dig – Ampthill Park; 6th – 18th June.
Ampthill Town Council have made available free of charge, to Ampthill Residents only a limited number of places to participate in the dig as follows:-

Adults Dig for a Day.
Available to 17 year old and adults.
A full days archaeological dig alongside archeaologists.
Available dates as follows.
Monday 8th June, Thursday 11th June and Tuesday 16th June.

Families and Children Dig Club session.
Available to children 12 – 16years. Child / Children must be accompanied by a parent / guardian.
These will be Full Day archaeological dig sessions.
Available dates Sunday 7th June and Saturday 13th June.

Adults and 16 and 17 year olds. Finds Handling sessions.
A full day session working on the items that have been found during the dig.
Available date Sunday 14th June

If you would like the opportunity to participate in any of the above, please email the Park Manager, [email protected] no later than 12.00noon on Friday 29th May. Successful applicants will be selected at random and informed by Monday 1st June.

In your email, please provide details of the activity you are applying for and date(s), whether your application includes a child or children. You can apply for more than one activity / date.
Successful applicants will need to provide details of home address in due course. These opportunities are only available to Ampthill Town residents.

Dig Ventures the appointed archaeologists will manage the activities and will communicate directly with successful applicants.
