Today, I had the privilege of unveiling the 'Legend on the Bench' new Su***de Prevention Bench in Kennington, alongside the wonderful Cllr Eleanor Alyce Crook, who has worked so incredibly hard to fundraise and make this important project a reality, and Kennington’s Deputy Mayor, Cllr Chacko Pradeep Jacob.

This is so much more than a bench. It’s a reminder that mental health matters, conversations matter, and every single one of us matters. 💚

In a world where we’re often glued to our phones, rushing around and sometimes too busy to notice what’s happening around us, the aim of this bench is simple: encourage people to stop, sit down, put their phones away and TALK to each other.

Ask someone how they really are. Take the time to listen. Check in on a friend, a neighbour, a colleague or even a complete stranger. And remember that sometimes, the person who seems happiest on the outside may be struggling the most on the inside.

We don’t always know what battles other people are fighting, but a little kindness, a listening ear or a simple conversation could make a bigger difference than we’ll ever realise.

👏 A huge well done to Ellie for her determination, hard work and fundraising to bring this bench to Kennington. Projects like this show the very best of community spirit.

Let’s look out for one another. Let’s talk, let’s listen, and let’s make sure nobody feels they have to face their darkest moments alone.

And if this bench helps just ONE person to stop, sit down, open up and find a reason to keep going, then every bit of effort that has gone into making it happen will have been worth it. ❤️

A lovely day attending the Sea Cadets Trafalgar Day Parade in Deal in my role as Deputy Mayor of Ashford, celebrating the spirit, discipline and dedication of our young people and the fantastic work of the Sea Cadets.

It was particularly special to meet so many young people from Ashford who were taking part in the marching band. It was wonderful to see them representing our town with such pride, confidence and enthusiasm!

A huge well done to all the cadets, musicians, volunteers and organisers who made the day such a success. Events like this are a great reminder of the opportunities young people gain through teamwork, commitment and being part of something bigger than themselves.

Proud to see Ashford's young people out there making their mark!
Big thanks to Cllr Linda Harman for being my consort today.

Recently, I was honoured to be invited by the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Suss*x team to visit their base in Rochester and learn more about the incredible work they do across our communities.

It was a fascinating and, at times, emotional visit. We had the opportunity to learn more about the service, the teams behind it and the vital role they play when someone is facing a life-threatening emergency. We also had the chance to practise CPR and other lifesaving techniques.

One message really stood out to me: don't be afraid to perform CPR.

In an emergency, doing something is almost always better than doing nothing. The Air Ambulance team are keen to remove some of the barriers that can make people hesitate — including worries about doing CPR on someone of the opposite s*x or concerns about touching someone inappropriately.

Put simply, when someone isn't breathing, their priority is going to be being alive. Don't let embarrassment or fear of "doing it wrong" stop you from trying to save a life.

Another part of the visit particularly resonated with me. The service has established an aftercare programme for people who have been involved in incidents attended by the Air Ambulance, helping them reconnect with the teams involved and process what they have experienced.

That really hit home for me.

Last winter, I was one of the first people at the scene of a particularly horrific accident which was attended by the Air Ambulance. At the time, I didn't know that support like this was available to people who had witnessed or been involved in traumatic incidents. Having the opportunity today to talk about what I saw and experienced with members of the team was genuinely helpful.

It made me realise that perhaps I should have reached out for that support at the time.

The Kent, Surrey & Suss*x Air Ambulance is a charity, and providing this service costs an enormous amount of money. Yet when the worst happens, having highly trained professionals arrive with the skills, equipment and expertise to give someone a chance of survival can make all the difference.

We would be lost without them.

Thank you to everyone at the Air Ambulance for welcoming me, for the work you do every single day, and for reminding us that sometimes the simplest thing any of us can do is have a go and try to save a life.

If you ever find yourself in that situation, don't be afraid. Start CPR.

This afternoon I went to see Jasmin Vardimon Company Lullaby — and I’ll be honest, dance performances aren’t normally my thing.

But WOW. What an experience.

I genuinely wasn’t prepared for the emotional roller coaster that unfolded in front of me. Beautiful, haunting, powerful, funny, thought-provoking and, at times, completely mesmerising. The movement, music, lighting and storytelling came together in a way that drew me in and kept me captivated from beginning to end.

It’s one of those performances where you find yourself feeling things before you’ve even worked out why. I left feeling slightly overwhelmed in the best possible way — and with a completely new appreciation for contemporary dance.

And perhaps what struck me most is how lucky we are to have this level of creativity and talent happening right here in our own town. We sometimes take what’s on our doorstep for granted, but performances like this are a reminder of what a fantastic cultural community we have.

So, from someone who normally wouldn’t choose a dance performance… Lullaby, you’ve converted me.

Absolutely mesmerising. What a privilege to experience it.

I had a fabulous time at the World in a Tent festival this afternoon at Victoria Park. It was great to see so many families present enjoying the food, music and dancing.
I had a henna tattoo on my hand, bought some colourful African trousers and enjoyed several amazing Nepalese and carribean dishes.
Huge congratulations to all involved for such a great event, which highlights the rich culture and diversity in our town.
