WE NEED YOUR HELP!
For some time now the Parish Council has been writing a Neighbourhood Plan for Barcombe. The Govt website states that 'Neighbourhood planning gives communities direct power to develop a shared vision for their neighbourhood and shape the development and growth of their local area'. In order to move forward with this project we need some people in our community to complete surveys - Older people over 60 and younger people aged between 11 and 20. If you fall into this category or know someone who does we would love to hear from you and them! The surveys shouldn't take more than a few minutes to complete.

A message from the Rights of Way group at ESCC.

I’m writing to let you know that our bridge replacement on Barcombe Footpath 24 will, unfortunately, now be delayed until next year.

There are a combination of challenges at the moment which are leading to this delay. Most importantly, we are still waiting for the fabricated bridge to be delivered by our contractor. Once we have received the structure, we would also need to install the bridge footings and order a pontoon before the Environment Agency’s (EA’s) 1st October deadline. As it’s now mid-September, even if the bridge were delivered this week, there is now not enough time to carry out the installation.

The bridge works and the EA permission will now roll-over until early summer 2027, when we will restart installation work. In the meantime, once the bridge has been delivered, it will be stored off-site during the winter.

A minor formal path diversion is also required before the bridge is installed and I’m pleased to say that South East Water (as landowner) have now agreed to that taking place. Additionally, the well-established alternative route for path users will also remain in place until the bridge can be replaced 😕

Are there any solicitors in the village that could support the Parish Council with conveyancing linked to the gaining of a small land asset? Please contact [email protected] if you can help

*Date for your diary* October 6th, Village Hall, 7.30pm

Barcombe Parish Council and the Ouse and Adur Rivers Trust present a talk about the importance of the River Ouse and the Bevern Stream to the threatened Sea Trout species. Did you know that very locally, these big fish are swimming up stream to spawn but their habitat is threatened? It is up to us as a community to fight for our rivers and their well being.
Speakers include
Peter King - Ouse and Adur Rivers Trust
Dave Bangs - Field Naturalist and Conservationist
Stewart Allum - the Ouse Angling Preservation Society

Refreshments will be available.

Please note that ESCC have said that it is not possible for pedestrians to walk along Hamsey Lane while repairs are being done. They feel it would be too dangerous.
Also, the short path from the car park at Barcombe Mills to the village has been closed due to an oak tree being identified as possibly dangerous. The footpath has been temporarily diverted onto the road until the tree surgeon remedy the situation.
