**IS THE PARAMOUNT BECOMING A POLITICAL POWER GAME?**
There is a much bigger question that residents of Pen*stone need to be asking.
**Has the Paramount and Town Hall debate stopped being about the people of Pen*stone and started becoming about political power, influence and personal ambition?**
One elected town councillor has now stepped away from their position, and there are claims circulating about the treatment they received from other elected representatives.
If those claims are accurate, that raises serious questions about the culture within that current local town council of Pen*stone.
But there is another issue that deserves scrutiny.
There is a growing perception among some residents that the Mayor and Baroness may be using the Paramount/Town Hall issue to raise their political profile and strengthen their position within wider political circles, that is a question about political motivation, not a statement that this is what is happening. and potentially with ambitions that could ultimately include a seat in the House of Lords.
**That is a question about political motivation, not a statement that this is what is happening.**
But it is a perfectly legitimate question for residents to ask.
If an elected representative is involved in decisions concerning a major public asset, and those decisions also have the potential to increase their political profile, then surely residents have a right to ask:
**Who is this really being done for?**
**Is it for Pen*stone?**
**Is it for the people who use the Paramount?**
**Is it for the wider community?**
**Or are wider political ambitions becoming part of the picture?**
The Paramount is not a political trophy.
The Town Hall is not a vehicle for personal advancement.
These are important community assets, and decisions about their future should be based on transparency, accountability, evidence and the interests of the people they serve.
Residents should be able to ask questions without being dismissed as political opponents.
Councillors should be able to disagree without personal agendas becoming part of the debate.
And if there are political ambitions connected to this issue, residents deserve transparency about that too.
**The question isn't who can gain the most political influence from the Paramount.**
**The question is whether the people of Pen*stone are genuinely at the centre of the decisions being made about it.**
Because if this really has become a political power game, the public deserves to know.
**PENISTONE DESERVES ANSWERS.**
AND LET'S BE CLEAR ABOUT THE Β£1 MILLION
There has also been talk suggesting that the Paramount cannot continue because around Β£1 million of planned funding has been stopped.
But that funding related to the wider Town Hall redevelopment and building works, not simply the day-to-day running costs of the cinema.
If stopping that capital investment really means the Paramount cannot operate, then residents deserve to see the financial evidence explaining exactly why.
This shouldn't be about political spin.
It shouldn't be about personalities.
And it certainly shouldn't be about who has the most influence.
It should be about facts, figures and what is genuinely best for the people of Pen*stone and Barnsley.
And lets be clear the funding was for the building not the Cinema so this reply either lacks your understanding of what the funding would have been for or is it that you would intend to it use for propping up the cinema because it is running at a loss?
