Help us shape the future of Chesham

Residents in Chesham are being invited to help shape the future of their community by taking part in a consultation on proposed updates to local Conservation Area boundaries.

Buckinghamshire Council has launched a public consultation and is encouraging residents, businesses and community groups to share their views on proposals to recognise, protect and enhance the places that make Chesham special. The proposals support the council's ambition to create thriving places where people are proud to live, helping to ensure the town's character and heritage continue to be valued as it grows and evolves.

Conservation Areas celebrate and preserve the features that make towns and villages distinctive, from historic buildings to valued green spaces. They help make sure change is carefully managed, so communities can continue to develop while keeping the distinctive character that residents value.

Buckinghamshire Council regularly reviews Conservation Areas to make sure they continue to reflect the places that matter most to local people. The proposed updates will ensure Conservation Area boundaries accurately recognise valued local heritage, green spaces and landmarks, helping to safeguard them for future generations while supporting well-planned growth that respects the character of the area.

In Chesham, proposals include extending the Conservation Area to include Lowndes Park, a much-loved public green space with significant historic interest, along with Thomas Harding School, Meades Water Garden and Waterside.

The review represents an important opportunity, as Chesham's Conservation Area was last reviewed in 1987. Updating the appraisal will help ensure the character, heritage and features that residents value today are properly recognised and considered as the town continues to evolve.

Peter Strachan, Buckinghamshire Council's Cabinet Member for Planning, said:
"The character of our towns and villages is one of Buckinghamshire's greatest strengths and something residents consistently tell us they value.

"Conservation Areas help protect the features that make places distinctive, whether that's historic buildings, valued green spaces, important views or the overall feel of an area. By keeping these appraisals up to date, we can help ensure any future changes protect and enhance the unique character and history of Chesham.

"This is also about making sure local people have a real say in how their communities develop in the years ahead. The views we receive will help shape decisions that protect local heritage, support thriving places and ensure Buckinghamshire remains a great place to live, work and visit.

"Local people know their communities best, so I'd encourage anyone with an interest in their area to take part and tell us what matters most to them."

The consultation supports Buckinghamshire Council's priorities to create great places, protect what matters most to local communities, and ensure residents have a say in how their towns and villages evolve in the years ahead.

A programme of drop-in engagement events, including daytime and evening sessions, will give people the opportunity to learn more about the proposals, ask questions and share their feedback before completing the online consultation:
Chesham Town Hall: 4 November 12.30-2pm and 5 November 5.30-7pm.
Wooburn Green, St Paul’s Church rooms: 4 November 4-5.30pm and 5 November 12.30-2pm.

The Labour government are forcing the good people of Buckinghamshire to accommodate 91,000 new homes with potentially devastating consequences and no infrastructure funding. The Lib Dems collaborate with them at every turn and would impose another 20,000 homes on top of the Labour target!

So imagine the anger from residents as they receive the latest central party propaganda from the Lib Dems.

Residents want and deserve better health services. The Lib Dems have chosen to weaponise that in what is a hollow campaign of virtue signalling. They don’t understand the issues, they don’t offer solutions, they just appear to be blaming the housing target of 91,000 new homes.

They didn’t just collaborate with Labour to impose that target and on many more issues. They advocate much higher targets that would significantly increase harm to communities right across the UK.

Their latest leaflet has even used conservative blue branding because their sallow orange is toxic. They are the limpets of politics hanging on the coat tails of this dreadful Labour government, preying on the concerns of voters, claiming other people’s success as their own, telling voters whatever they want to hear on the doorstep while they vote in a different and more harmful way in chambers across the nation. They have no shame!

Don’t believe their propaganda. Don’t accept the harm they will inflict on Buckinghamshire, its budgets and its services. They have no plan. They have no solutions. They just blame others and take no responsibility for their actions.

VALE WARD BY-ELECTION: BUSTING ADDRESS MYTHS

The Conservative candidate, Louie McNamara, is the ONLY candidate that lives in the Vale ward itself.

Half a dozen residents have now told me he lives in Beaconsfield - THAT IS NOT TRUE!! Louie lives in the heart of Vale ward. The other three candidates live in Chesham but in different wards.
Every single piece of literature distributed during an election, by law, has to have a line on it called an 'imprint'. It contains the name of the candidate's agent and the registered office address of the party they are standing for. Even an Independent has to include this on their leaflets, letters and calling cards.

The local conservative group have a registered office in Beaconsfield, which is why you see a Beaconsfield address on the bottom of Louie's literature. It's purely for correspondence and to act as a registered base.

Some opposition activists seem confused about this so if confused Lib Dems tell you Louie lives in Beaconsfield then please correct them and remind them that LOUIE IS THE ONLY BY-ELECTION CANDIDATE THAT LIVES IN VALE WARD!!!! They seem very confused about numerous facts and figures on doorsteps so let's help them out and get them back on the straight and narrow.

VALE BY-ELECTION UPDATE: LIB DEMS CANCEL NEW MUMS & BABIES

A very worrying conversation with a health worker on the doorstep this morning. I am being told that the Lib Dem run town council have QUADRUPLED!! hire fees at the Town Hall.

One of the casualties is the new Mums & Babies health check appointments. Apparently their budget will no longer stretch to cover the increased fees so they have to find a new home for the health checks.

If this is true then shame on the Lib Dem run council. I took my baby girls to the town hall years ago and these health checks have been running for decades.

What kind of town is Chesham becoming? The Lib Dems trying to be anointed a town of culture but what kind of culture are they promoting? The kind of culture that organises events that provide Cllrs with public photo opportunities and hands out appreciation certificates to so many organisations they are devalued and become the town joke? The kind of culture that doesn’t support mums and newborn babies at one of the most sensitive and difficult times of their lives?

If community groups are being forced out of the Town Hall then the Lib Dems should hang their heads in shame!!!

If you want every group in our community to be supported, if you don’t agree with having Chesham council tax raised by almost 27%, if you don’t agree with services being cut and cancelled, you have a chance to send a clear message on Thursday 24th September.

VALE BY-ELECTION UPDATE: NAUGHTY FIRE CUT DENIERS
For those of you that don’t know we have a by-election for the Vale ward of Chesham town council.

Having spoken to many residents in the last couple of weeks I am worried about information being repeated by Lib Dem campaigners.

Lib Dem activists are telling residents that they did not cut fire services across Buckinghamshire and implying it was the Conservative group. Those activists are either very badly informed or they are deliberately misleading voters.

Let’s be crystal clear… the Lib Dem / Labour / Independent group chair the fire authority for Bucks & Milton Keynes. They revived harmful proposals to make major cuts to our fire services. The Conservative group opposed them (campaign graphic attached) and the public opposed them. There was a thorough public consultation and the public said no to cuts but the Lib Dem / Labour / Independent group proceeded with cuts anyway.

If you want to hear the truth, if you don’t agree with having Chesham council tax raised by almost 26.7%, if you don’t agree with services being cut and facilities closed, you have a chance to send a clear message on Thursday 24th September.

Buckinghamshire students celebrate A Level results day

Thousands of young people across Buckinghamshire are receiving their examination results today (Thursday 13 August), marking an important milestone as they prepare for the next stage of their education, training or careers.

Students are collecting A Level results, alongside a range of other qualifications including BTECs and NVQs, after months of hard work and dedication.

Buckinghamshire Council congratulates students on their achievements and wishes them every success as they move forward with their plans for the future.

A range of support and advice for exam results is available via the Buckinghamshire Family Information Service:

Carl Jackson, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services, said:

“Today is an important day for thousands of young people across Buckinghamshire. I would like to congratulate every student collecting their results today. Whether they are going to university, starting an apprenticeship or further training, entering the world of work or exploring other opportunities, this is a momentous step in their journey. I wish them every success for the future.

“Thank you to the parents, carers, teachers and support staff who have worked to help so many young people in our county to fulfil their potential.

“While many students will be celebrating, I know some young people will not have achieved the results they wanted and will be unsure about what to do next. For those students, there is support available.

“I would encourage anyone who needs advice or reassurance to speak with their school, college or training provider and make use of that support and information. There will be options and opportunities to consider.

"I wish every young person getting results today every success with their next step".

A very engaging public meeting on the Local Plan hosted by Cllr Carl Jackson, Councillor Simon Rouse and Cllr Martin Tett. There were residents present from all 6 villages in their ward - Chalfont St Giles, Little Chalfont, Seer Green Village, Jordans Village, Chenies and Coleshill.

It is important that local residents respond to the public consultation to support the Local Plan and its policy of having no new development sites on Green Belt land. This is in spite of the Labour government imposing an aggressive and inappropriate target of 91,000+ homes on Bucks. Lib Dem targets would add another 20,000 to that number.

To respond to the consultation, visit https://www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/.../reg-19-consultation If you would like a copy of the handout from the public meeting, please email [email protected] and he will send you a copy, which includes a guide to responding to the consultation.

A full day today with morning and afternoon sessions with one of our fabulous Buckinghamshire MPs, Mid Buckinghamshire's Greg Smith, as we shared his hard work on protecting our countryside and holding HS2 to account.

Meanwhile Labour forcing 91,000+ homes onto Bucks - the Lib Dems would add another 20,000 to that number. 😱 Working hard to show Bucks residents that it is the Conservatives protecting our county, saving the Green Belt, fighting for proper infrastructure funding and delivering a balanced budget as our central government funding is slashed by £45 million.

Labour have cancelled funding for our planned SEND school and continue to cause massive harm to the UK while their Lib Dem collaborators back them up on every detrimental vote.
