Residents deserve better.

While Glebe Farm & Tile Cross is not part of the current fortnightly bin collection pilot, this is a concerning direction.

Reform Birmingham believe that residents deserve a reliable weekly household waste collection service and we oppose any plans to introduce fortnightly bin collections.

Why has the coalition decided to keep Labour’s fortnightly bin collection plans?

Yesterday, Birmingham residents began receiving letters confirming that household waste collections will move to a fortnightly service.

The decision was made by the previous Labour administration before the election. But the new Liberal Democrat–Green–Independent administration had a choice whether to proceed.

During the election campaign, the Liberal Democrats argued that weekly household waste collections should continue until the service had proved itself reliable. Their manifesto stated:

“We will maintain weekly collections until services have shown themselves to be completely reliable for a significant level of time. A move to fortnightly residual waste collections is simply not acceptable with the current high level of missed collections.”

Reform believes Birmingham residents deserve an effective, reliable weekly household waste collection alongside a regular recycling service.

The Liberal Democrats said fortnightly collections were not acceptable until Birmingham’s waste service had become “completely reliable for a significant level of time”.

If the coalition has changed its position since the election, it should explain why. Residents deserve better than to be messed around by a series of contradictory letters landing on their doorsteps

Action Update – Tackling Environmental Issues in Tile Cross 🌿

Today I have formally written to the Operations Manager (Environmental Lead) to raise the growing concerns surrounding fly-tipping, abandoned vehicles and other environmental issues across Tile Cross.

In my letter, I have requested a joint walkabout with the relevant enforcement teams to identify problem hotspots, strengthen enforcement where needed, and ensure residents can see that action is being taken.

These issues have been raised by the vice chair of the resident meeting Leanne Bryan and I share the frustration at how long some have been left unresolved. I will continue to push for action and work with the relevant teams to improve the local area.

For transparency, I’ve attached a copy of the letter so you can see exactly what I have asked for.

🚧 Road Resurfacing Update 🚧

Unfortunately, I have been informed that the planned road resurfacing works that I previously shared with residents are no longer going ahead at this time.

This is extremely disappointing news, particularly given the condition of some of the roads involved and the expectation that works would proceed as planned.

I am sharing the update from my colleagues, Cllr Darren Colling and Cllr Rachel Conaghan, who are seeking answers as to why the project has been cancelled despite budgets having reportedly been allocated and contractors appointed.

As many residents in Glebe Farm & Tile Cross, particularly those in The Radleys or travelling towards Solihull, may be affected by this decision, I felt it was important to keep you informed.

🚨 Lamppost Update – Glebe Farm Road 🚨

After noticing the condition of this damaged lamppost on Glebe Farm Road, I contacted Kier to request an update on when repairs would be carried out.

I have now received confirmation that, due to the exposed wiring, the issue is being treated as an emergency and will be made safe as a priority while arrangements are made for the full repair to take place.

Thank you to everyone who has raised concerns about this issue. I am pleased that action is now being taken to address the immediate risk.

I will continue to monitor the situation and provide any further updates when available.

This afternoon I joined a local resident for another litter pick on Gressel Lane. Together we collected several bags of rubbish and helped tidy up the area.

While we were out, I also reported:
✅ A broken tree branch that has fallen and requires attention.
✅ Overgrown bushes that are beginning to encroach onto the footpath.

A big thank you to the resident who gave up their time to help. It’s always great to see members of the community taking pride in the area and working together to make a difference.
