World Otter Day 2026! 🌍
Meet the Asian Small-Clawed Otter 🦦
The smallest otter species in the world, the Asian Small-Clawed Otter (Aonyx cinereus), may be tiny, but it’s full of personality!
📏 Size: 60 - 90 cm
⚖️ Weight: 2 - 6 kg
🦀 Diet: Crabs, molluscs, and other bottom-dwelling creatures
⏱️ Gestation: Around 9 weeks
👶 Offspring: 5 - 4 cubs
These social and intelligent animals are under threat due to habitat destruction, hunting for fur, and demand for the pet trade.
Their conservation status is currently Vunerable
By spreading awareness, we can help protect these incredible little otters and their fragile ecosystems 💚

Come and see the “bearcat” on World Binturong Day! 🐾
Saturday 9th May is World Binturong Day, and we hope you will come to see our two binturongs, 16-year-old Bibsi and 7-year-old Thor! Binturongs are primarily active in the twilight and nighttime, so these civets do not venture out into the light often. Despite this, they still appear enough in the day for their distinct personalities to shine, as while Thor (who has white markings on his dark fur) is particularly food-curious, Bibsi (who has fully black fur) is much more chilled out!
We hope you enjoy seeing these curious creatures on Saturday!

Celebrating Sir David’s 100th with free tickets! 🌍
Sir David Attenborough will be 100 years old on Friday 8th May 2026, and he has been presenting programs advocating for the natural world since the 1950s! To commemorate many years of Sir Attenborough on our screens, we will be admitting the first 100 children aged 3 to 15 years old for free Friday! Please note that we will not be able to refund online bookings with child tickets for this day, but on-the-door admission is always available for purchase!
We hope to see you to celebrate Sir David’s legacy on Friday!

Two curious faces, one very cool secret 🌿🐾
This , we’re shining the spotlight on Bibsi and Thor - our resident binturongs here at Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park.
Now here’s the fun part… binturongs might look like a mix between a bear and a cat, but they’re actually part of the civet family - the same group known for their incredible scents and important roles in the wild. And Bibsi and Thor? They smell like buttered popcorn 🍿 yes, really it’s one of nature’s strangest and most wonderful quirks!
These nocturnal members of the civet family are busiest after dark. While they snack on fruit high in the trees, they spread seeds through the forest.
So while they’re busy being adorable and smelling like movie night, they’re also helping protect the future of their habitats.
Come and meet these popcorn scented forest heroes on your next visit 💚
