Over the past 4 years, we have donated hundreds of books to many schools across the Greater Banjul Area. A book a child campaign will start again next month from 1st June to 20th July 2025.

We are committed to this course.

If you want your children to be intelligent give them books to read. If you want them to be more intelligent, give them more books to read. Who will help us this year to build a state of the art library in The Gambia?

Sheikh Alh-Karamba Massembe is a household name in The Gambia and Senegal. He has made worthy contributions to human advancement, particularly in relation to Islamic teachings, service to Islam and poverty alleviation. Just ask anyone; his record speaks for itself.

In April last year, when I met the venerable Sheikh at his residence in Taba Casamance, our entire conversation was centred on the subject of Wali (Saints) - who are they and what is the criteria to become one. We also discussed our opinions on what it takes to become a good human being. It was one of the greatest lectures I have ever received from a scholar.

Can you imagine, at his private Library which I was privilege to visit, there are more than 3,800 books authored by 3800 different people. Remarkably, he has read every single one of them.

In that regard, scholars are in unanimous agreement that the wisdom of a man who reads 1000 books is equal to the knowledge of a man who lived 1000 years. Thus, how about a man who reads well over 3,800 books? Certainly that man would be the ocean of knowledge wouldn't he? And that person is Alh-Karamba Massembe.

I am not sure if we have a Service to Islam Award in The Gambia but if we do, I cannot think of anyone who is more qualified and worthy to receive such an honour than him.

My brothers and sisters, you should recognise that to celebrate our scholars and give them their dues while they are alive is more inspiring than to kill 100s of cows to honour their legacy when they are no longer here.

We are an NGO and a non-profit organisation. Our objective is to help children to reach their potential and develop their creative skills through capacity building, particularly in the areas of learning and reading. Our long term objective is to provide training and tertiary education for young people in order to enhance their skills which will allow them to become valued members of society.

On behalf of Back To School Foundation, today I received 230 books worth D57,000 from The Gambia National Library as donation towards our Nationwide initiative(a book a child) A massive thanks goes to the management of National Library for their contributing to this noble course.

We are about to embark on a nationwide tour donating books in English and Arabic to children from poor and disadvantaged backgrounds between the ages of 10-16. In order to achieve such noble course, we relied on receiving donations from generous people like you whether its cash or kind. We count on your support becuase every little makes a difference. Why in the postmodern society most people's are often reluctant to take advices from their families and friends as result social dysfunction and family breakdowns are prevalent?

While the school holiday is in the high gear, its essential to encourage children to read books and spend less time on social media.
