It's Friday night in Edinburgh. For many, that means heading home, making weekend plans, or settling in somewhere warm.

But for someone experiencing homelessness, the night can bring a different reality — cold streets, uncertainty, and basic needs that cannot wait.

That's why, behind the scenes, The Wee Hours prepares for the hours ahead.

Every bag packed, every warm layer, every bottle of water, and every essential has a purpose.

We know many people want to help but aren't always sure how. Sometimes, it's as simple as donating useful items, sharing our work, or supporting our outreach.

Because while the city winds down, our commitment to kindness keeps going.

The worst part of running a wee charity that has an outside service, is when it comes to times like this, and you have to make a call on keeping your team safe. It's a horrible decision and one I don't take lightly. Sadly, due to the weather warnings, we have made the hard decision to pull the full service tonight and the breakfast service on Sunday. Instead I'll do a quick tour round in the van to check the haunts and safe spaces our guests usually go when the weather is bad, and check if anyone needs anything. I know it's better than nothing, but it still weighs heavily on me. We need a building! That's definitely my next goal! So then we hopefully never have to make a call like this again. Stay safe everyone! Xx

So today.....this happened!! 1,000 followers!! 1,000 people who care, who share, who support those in need! A tiny local charity, barely 2 years old, but that week in, week out, helps those who are homeless, those sleeping rough, those experiencing food poverty, those who struggle to care for their animals. One van, a team of dedicated volunteers and a whole lot of love to give. To every single person who follows us, who shares our stories, who donates their time, who's helped us grow into something I'm so, so proud of, thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. When the weather changes, the need can change quickly too.

For someone experiencing homelessness in Edinburgh, a cold or wet night can make everything harder — staying warm, staying dry, and finding comfort when basic essentials are out of reach.

Sometimes the most helpful support is not a specific item from home. It is a donation that gives The Wee Hours the flexibility to buy what is needed most, when it is needed most.

A new week. A warmer night for someone else. 🖤

As a new week begins, it is easy to focus on our own plans, errands, and routines.

But for someone experiencing homelessness in Edinburgh, a warmer night can start with something simple — a clean pair of socks, a blanket, a warm layer, toiletries, or one small donation from someone who cared enough to act.

This morning's 7am finding: He-Man has nothing on a determined Fifer, running late and needing to get 17 things downstairs at once 💪!! Also....if you drop 12 bottles of water and they go ping ponging down said stairs.....laughing out loud and waking the neighbour's dog up is possibly NOT the smartest thing to do 🤣!! Today is World Homeless Day 2026. This problem is growing. It's not just a local issue, but a worldwide problem that is showing no signs of slowing down. Very often it's local agencies, charities like us that are doing our best to help as many people as we can. But we are just a sticky plaster on a broken arm. Much more needs to be done to even try to stem this issue, let alone solve it. To all those who have supported us The Wee Hours Edinburgh, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
