Another week, another church. Pirbright this week. Parts of original church date back to 12th century. Modern church is mainly late Georgian.
Our aim is to continue and promote the traditional craft of Stonemasonry, along with Lime Mortars. Up until four years ago Chris worked entirely on his own.
Chris Anstey has been involved with traditional stone and lime work restoration and conservation for the past twenty years. Mainly concentrated in and around the Guildford Diocese, his work ranges from minor re-pointing using non-hydraulic lime mixes, to the complete re-carving and replacement of heavily decayed architectural masonry. Replacement of Galble end copings at Oxenford Farm.
Carved in York Sand Stone. Stepped copings to match originals that slid off the gable when springer failed.

This is not what you want to happen. Classic coping slide. Luckily Stone already in hand for opposite ends of building. Important to keep on top of those or buildings.

Pebbledash repair at cobham Church, Surrey. Never thought I would enjoy pebble dashing but I must admit end result is very satisfying.

Chuck parapet wall capping at Liss Church Hampshire. Now we've got to fit it 🤔

All in a days work for a Stone Mason. Ingenious method by wise member of team to lift large copings up 60 foot Church tower. Test ✅. Now just to get the stuff up there 🤔

New Climark, Sandstone, window on local farm house. Carving and fitting.

Woodham Church chimney repairs. Disused but maybe required in next 5 years.
One of those jobs situated directly above a roof on all sides. From the ground the work looked straight forward but when we had access there was much more to do.
Iron strap was removed as it was causing more trouble than it was solving. Overall end result was good.

Local family grave restoration. Amazing what you can do with a diamond core doll bit and stainless steel pin.
