Have a read of what one of our party members thinks about Alan Wood’s book Ireland: Republicanism and Revolution. Originally a pamphlet, it was later expanded into a book that gives an overview of the Irish working-class struggle.

We’d highly recommend the book as preparation if you’re planning to come to our Easter Rising open meeting on Thursday 23 April, from 6pm at QMU, Conference Room 3.

If you’d like to explore more theory on this, here are a couple of short sources we recommend:

Lenin Book Club 📕 returns for 2026!

Join to study Marxist ideas via one of history's greatest revolutionary leaders and thinkers.

Get to grips with the basics of Marxist thought and learn about what communists fight for.

We are living through an era of enormous change in the global capitalist system, with US imperialism tearing up the liberal order it once propped up and preparing a new epoch of aggression and exploitation for the world. Rather than hopelessly suffer under these attacks, we need to prepare a fightback!

Marxism serves as a guide for us on what we are fighting against, who we fight with and what we are fighting for. If you want to learn this for yourself, then start reading Lenin and join us to discuss these ideas!

✊ Solidarity with the Birmingham bin strike!

It was great to hear Danny, one of the strikers, in Glasgow last night. Birmingham City Council are trying to cut the pay of the bin men by £8-10k, which they are fighting with an all-out strike, now running over 10 weeks.

Despite being a rep for only four weeks before the dispute began, Danny has been thrown into a fierce battle with the council, who have illegally hired scabs and called on the police and private security to intimidate strikers. "They win one, we lose one, we win one, they lose one" he says.

Birmingham Labour councillors have refused negotiation, and Deputy PM Angela Rayner intervened to publicly pressure workers to take a 'deal' that does not exist.

Meanwhile the Labour government extracts over £250,000,000 per year from Birmingham through loan payments, even charging interest on the interest! Even a small cut to this could repair Birmingham's budget without the need for cuts to jobs and pay.

Unite the Union are standing by the strike, mobilising activists to put pressure on the council and prevent scabbing. Knocking on doors, speaking to local business owners, putting up posters and signs of support, and stickering bins, as well as visiting depots in neighbouring council areas.

There were many messages of support in the room, and read out from trade unionists across Scotland. The Birmingham strike is just one part of a broader struggle against austerity and the "cost of capitalism crisis", in the words of RMT's Gordon Martin. Victory for the Birmingham bin men will be felt across Britain, as would defeat.

"We are the dam thats holding back the water" as Danny said.

Soak up the sun and study the philosophy of revolution! ☀️

Our next reading group meeting will be on the one that started it all, The Communist Manifesto! One of the most influential works of all time, the manifesto contains an early outline of Marxist theory and politics.

We will also have a discussion on why Marx was right, and still is!

Join us for Marx in the Park, 31 May, 1pm in Hayburn Park.

Some of our photos from the Battle of Kenmure Street, four years ago today. ✊

Quick reaction from people across Glasgow defeated the Home Office's attempt to abduct and deport two men. Securing their freedom and forcing the Tory government to back down was a historic moment of popular power and mass solidarity.

Like many other Glaswegians, we joined the crowds and documented the tense standoff, the moment of jubilation as the police van doors opened, and the celebration of victory as the men were escorted by the crowds to a safe place.
