Crews have highlighted the importance of having working smoke alarms after a kitchen fire in Harlow last night.

Two crews attended, finding that the mid-terrace house had started to fill with smoke.

Crew Manager Day said: "When they heard the smoke alarm, the occupants did exactly the right thing: they got out; called 999, and stayed out.”

"The incident shows how important it is to have working smoke alarms; they keep you and your family safe by giving you an early warning."

Crews used a fan to clear the smoke. The fire was caused when the hob was left on accidentally.

A BIG thank you to our very own Crew Manager Catherine Smith from Harlow Fire Station who volunteered with Finbar and Steve to help deliver a fire engine and lifesaving firefighting equipment to our Ukrainian colleagues 🇺🇦 🚒

Crew Manager Catherine Smith said she was proud to volunteer for the mission: "I volunteered to take part in the convoy because I wanted to help our colleagues in Ukraine, who continue to operate in extremely challenging and dangerous conditions while protecting their communities. I'm proud to have contributed my time, knowing the convoy will have a tangible impact for firefighters working with limited resources.

"Meeting our European colleagues was a great experience and the hospitality they showed us was amazing. Although many of us had never met before, everyone worked together with the shared goal of delivering vital aid safely and effectively. It really summed up the camaraderie and teamwork throughout the journey."

🚒Community Engagement🚒

Green Watch had a fantastic visit to Peterpans pre school! The crew first spoke to the pupils about fire safety and the importance of working smoke alarms, ensuring that the pupils knew what to do if a smoke alarm went off.

The pupils were then shown around the fire engine and sprayed lots of water! 🔥

If you want to learn about smoke alarms just like the pupils did, take a look at the link in the comment section down below. 🚒

Harlow crews had the pleasure of watching Fizz, our Fire Investigation dog in action today.
She was deployed to help determine whether any accelerants had been used in a fire last night and quickly identified two areas of interest. This played a key role in supporting Fire Investigation Officers in confirming the seat of the fire.
Well done Fizz 🐾👏

🚒🔥we had a brilliant morning at Harlow Fire Station! 🔥🚒
On Wednesday, we were delighted to welcome Bridget’s-ASL for a fire safety awareness visit. The students learned all about fire safety in the home, discovered what Firefighters do, and of course had a bit of fun getting hands on with the hoses! 💦😃
Great to see so much enthusiasm and big smiles all round - thanks for visiting us!

In the early hours of this morning (10th May), Green Watch attended a derelict building fire.

Upon arrival, crews requested assistance from an aerial ladder platform, to tackle the fire from above.

Crews believe the fire was started deliberately. If you have any information that could help, please report it to FireStoppers – details are in the comments.

🔥🚒
In the early hours of this morning, crews from Harlow White Watch assisted colleagues from Loughton and Waltham Abbey at a fire in a derelict pub in Debden.
The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished using hose reels and mainline jets. A fire investigation will be carried out in due course to establish the cause.
