Our Hartlepool Labour team were out knocking on doors this morning with the Throston Ward Labour Team 🌹

Great response and lots of positive feedback from residents about Jack and Martin's work locally 👊

Great canvass this morning on Conway Walk, part of Flint Walk, Harlech Walk, and part of Throston Grange Lane with David, Indy, Mark, Maxine, Moss, and Oliver from the Hartlepool Labour team 🌹

We had a great response to Andy Burnham and his recent policy announcements, and even though he couldn't make it this morning, we had lots of local residents thank us for all the work Martin and I are doing in the ward 💪

REFORM AND THEIR INDEPENDENT ALLIES VOTE AGAINST LABOUR AMENDMENT ON ROYAL MAIL 😲

Tonight, Hartlepool Labour councillors brought an amendment to council calling for the Royal Mail to be brought back into public ownership, following the continuing failure of the privatised service, and backing the long held position of our MP, Jonathan Brash MP for Hartlepool ✅️

The amendment PASSED, but these Independent/Reform councillors voted against the amendment:

Cllr Bruce (Reform UK - Fens and Greatham)
Cllr Cowie (Reform UK - Hart)
Cllr Darby (Reform UK - Hart)

Cllr Gaines (Reform UK - Victoria)
Cllr Lindridge (Independent - Fens and Greatham)
Cllr Napper (Reform UK - Throston)
Cllr Stevenson (Reform UK - Foggy Furze)
Cllr Wiley (Reform UK - Rossmere)

After our amendment managed to pass, they then tried to vote against their own overall motion (with the exception of Cllr Napper) but failed again!

Thank you to Leisa Smith - Seaton Ward Councillor, Councillor Quewone Bailey-Fleet - Rossmere ward, and Councillor Tom Feeney - Rossmere Ward who voted for this amendment, and Sue Little - Putting Seaton First who voted for the overall motion 👏

Tonight, Labour councillors and some of our truly Independent colleagues put residents first and not Reform's shameless political games 🌹

Jonathan Brash MP holding Royal Mail executives to account and fighting for his constituents here in Hartlepool 👏

📮 ROYAL MAIL: “YOUR NAME COMES UP A LOT”

This week I sat down with Royal Mail executives and delivered the same message I’ve been delivering for months:

“Your service to Hartlepool is nowhere near good enough.”

I told them about constituents who have missed cancer screening appointments. Hospital appointments. Important correspondence. Bills arriving so late that people have ended up facing court action.

That is not a minor inconvenience.

It’s another privatisation disaster and completely unacceptable.

They told me my name “comes up a lot”.

Good.

I’m not remotely sorry.

If Royal Mail executives want me to stop being a pain in the backside, there is a very simple solution:

Fix the service.

Until Poolies are getting the reliable postal service they deserve, I will keep knocking on doors, asking questions, demanding answers and holding Royal Mail to account.

And let’s be absolutely clear: this is not about blaming our posties.

Our posties are working incredibly hard in difficult circumstances and deserve our support.

The responsibility for fixing this lies with those running the service.

I told Royal Mail clearly:

Hartlepool needs to see real improvements and we need to see them soon.

Because for people waiting for a hospital letter, a cancer screening appointment, a bill or any other vital piece of post, “sorry” simply isn’t good enough.

Get it fixed or I believe it should be taken back into public control.
