Crofting Commission We regulate and promote crofting in Scotland, creating a successful crofting system that positively Crofts range in size with an average croft being 5ha.

Crofting is a system of landholding which is unique to Scotland. A croft is relatively small agricultural land holding which is normally held in tenancy. The Crofting Commission is working to secure the future of crofting by creating and promoting a well regulated crofting system that positively contributes to the sustainability of rural communities. The Commission is a Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB) which operates on a day to day basis independently of the Scottish Government, but for which Scottish Ministers are ultimately responsible.

We could guess what crofters want to know about the 2027 election. We'd rather ask.

We want to know how much people understand about the Crofting Commission elections, what Commissioners actually do, what might encourage people to vote or stand, and where people would prefer to get their information.

The election will choose six elected members of the Crofting Commission Board, with votes counted on Friday 19 March 2027.

Tell us what you think:

The survey closes on 31 December 2026.

Please share it too – hearing from people with different experiences and views will help us plan better information for everyone.
