West Lindsey food waste collections pass 1,560 tonnes in first six months 🍏

Residents across West Lindsey have helped recycle more than 1,560 tonnes of food waste in the first six months of the district’s new weekly collection service helping turn unwanted food into renewable energy and fertiliser.

The service launched in the week commencing 30 March 2026, and between April and September a total of 1,562.71 tonnes of food waste was collected. That is roughly the weight of 210 classic London double-decker buses.

Monthly collections ranged from 230.48 tonnes to 314.11 tonnes, with 235.89 tonnes collected in September alone. The figures highlight the collective impact of a simple weekly habit, with residents using their kitchen and outdoor caddies to separate food waste from general rubbish.

Chairman of the Thriving Places Committee, Cllr Peter Morris said: “Collecting more than 1,560 tonnes of food waste in six months shows what residents can achieve by making a small change to their weekly routine. We would like to thank everyone who has been using their caddies and helping turn food waste into renewable energy and fertiliser here in Lincolnshire."

It's the time of year that we are considering the budget for next year so Councillors will be bringing forward their ideas of what we can do next year to improve the village and facilities. Please see https://keelby.parish.lincolnshire.gov.uk/downloads/file/611/kpc-update-4-budget-setting-and-precept for further information.

We need to submit a precept estimate to West Lindsey District Council by 20th November but we can work on this until the final return needs to be sent to them by 22nd January 2027.
Your Council Tax is made up of a number of elements which fluctuate but determine the total amount charged.
These include;

Parish Precept (the amount Keelby Parish Council requires to fund its services)

Amount of grant from West Lindsey District Council
Tax Base (the number of properties in the Parish)

Local Council Tax Support Scheme (amount of financial support given to Parishioners on low income)

Council Tax Discounts and exemptions (e.g. single person discount)

It is possible therefore, that the Parish Council does not change its Precept and yet the Council Tax charged to you may increase/decrease due to the other factors above.

🌿 Help shape our garden waste service for 2027/28.

We’d like your views on two proposed garden waste collection options for 2027/28.
The proposed options are:
- £50 a year for 18 collections from March to November
- Up to £57 a year for 22 collections, including winter and Christmas tree collections

We’re reviewing collection numbers as Met Office data shows a longer growing season and changing weather patterns.

Cllr Peter Morris, Chairman of Thriving Council Committee, said these options “offer different balances between annual cost, collection frequency and value for money.”

He added that residents must “have a meaningful say before any decision is made.”

♻️ Don’t use the service? You can take garden waste to your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre for free or compost at home.

⏰ Survey closes at 9am on Tuesday 1 December.

OPPORUNITY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN LINCOLNSHIRE: Lincolnshire Safer Communities Leaders
The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner is inviting applications from 14 – 21 year olds across Lincolnshire to volunteer as ‘Safer Communities Leaders’ and help shape the future of crime, policing and community safety where they live.

This programme brings together a cohort of young volunteers with a real chance to influence change. They will be supported by professionals to gather the views of young people across Lincolnshire and present their findings and recommendations directly to the Police and Crime Commissioner, Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, and other senior leaders in policing and community safety.

This is a unique opportunity for young people to speak up for their generation, build skills and confidence, and engage directly with the people making decisions that affect them.

Find out more about the role of a Safer Communities Leader and how to apply on the Police and Crime Commissioner’s website.
https://lincolnshire-pcc.gov.uk/about-us/get-involved/lincolnshire-safer-communities-leaders/

If you know a young person who may be interested, please encourage them to apply. Lincolnshire needs young leaders with energy, passion and fresh ideas.

Our Fraud and Scams Prevention Packs have been created to empower communities to identify and report fraud, and prevent themselves from becoming victims of crime.
