HALLOWEEN 2026 - FROM CHESHIRE POLICE

Halloween is fast approaching us, so we thought we would share some hints and tips to make sure it's an enjoyable time for everyone.

Many elderly residents, vulnerable people, and those living alone may feel anxious or unsettled by unexpected knocks on their door after dark.

✅ If you're taking children trick-or-treating:

• Only visit homes that are clearly decorated for Halloween or have a pumpkin displayed.
• Respect "No Trick or Treat" signs and any requests not to be disturbed.
• Stay with children where possible and supervise younger children.
• Be polite and respectful to all residents.
• Never knock repeatedly, peer through windows, or cause nuisance if nobody answers.
• Keep noise to a minimum, particularly later in the evening.

✅ If you're handing out treats:

• Consider displaying a pumpkin or Halloween decoration to show you're happy to receive visitors.

Remember, what is fun for some can be frightening or disruptive for others. Let's work together to ensure everyone enjoys a safe, respectful and community-friendly Halloween. 🎃

Cheshire East food waste collection service is delayed. More information to come in the new year.

New weekly food waste collections - an update

We know that residents have rightly been asking for an update on when new weekly food waste collections will start. Today, we can confirm that we're postponing the rollout of this new service so that we can focus on getting our waste and recycling services back on track and ensuring we can deliver reliable bin collections.

Councillor David Jefferay, our cabinet member for environment, sustainability and waste management, said: “Our residents rightly expect that their bins are collected on time, week in, week out. In recent months, the service they have received has fallen significantly short of that standard.

“We are sorry, and we know the service must improve. We have a detailed plan in place to get us there, and are continuing to make good progress.

“A significant amount of work has already taken place to get us ready for weekly food waste collections and, from an operational perspective, we have the crews, vehicles and infrastructure in place for this new service that would have allowed us to start in November.

“However, introducing the new food waste service now would place more pressure on our wider collection operation, and risk disrupting the work we’re doing to ensure reliable services.

“I am not prepared to jeopardise that progress and that is why I have made the decision to postpone the food waste rollout until early next year.

“I know that many residents were keen to start using this new service and ensure more of their waste can be recycled. I want to be clear that this is a postponement and not a cancellation, and that residents should hold onto their food waste caddies.”

The introduction of weekly food waste collections is required by Government under its Simpler Recycling legislation.

Further information about the new food waste service will be issued early in the new year.

See the comments for more information.

We are very saddened to see the wanton vandalism at the lake. All the hawthorn bushes have been cut and dug up then thrown into the lake. These have been attempts to prevent erosion and preserve the area trying to encourage regeneration and wildlife back. This is a criminal act and has been reported to police with a crime number issued. Someone must know about this, so please get in touch if you have any information.

🎃 Spooky season is creeping closer… 👻

We all love a bit of Halloween decorating, but please think twice before putting fake cob webs outside 🕸️. They can be dangerous for our birds, hedgehogs, bats and other wildlife that visit our gardens. 🦔🐦🦇
