🌧️💧 Where does all the rainwater go on the North Hykeham Relief Road?

More than six miles of drainage pipes, 10 settlement ponds and almost 22 miles of drains and ditches are being installed to help manage water safely across Lincolnshire’s biggest infrastructure project.

💦 Once complete, the relief road will need to manage around 600 million litres of water every year, equivalent to approximately 240 Olympic-sized swimming pools!

The drainage system will help control surface water, manage sediment and regulate the flow of water into existing drainage networks, protecting the new road and surrounding environment.

🚧 Temporary drainage measures are also being used during construction to manage water and sediment while work progresses.

It’s a huge amount of work happening beneath and alongside the road, helping ensure the infrastructure is built to last.
