⏰ Last chance to share your views on the proposed ANPR cameras for part of Bebington Road, New Ferry.

The proposal looks at using ANPR technology to better enforce long‑standing vehicle restrictions, helping to reduce unnecessary traffic and improve safety for people using the area.

With the consultation period coming to an end on 7 June, this is the final opportunity to share your views. Details of the proposal, including a set of FAQs, are available on the council’s Have Your Say website, details below. 💬

Last week, communities across Wirral took part in Dementia Action Week, raising awareness, sharing support and helping people better understand dementia.

A highlight of the week was the dementia virtual tour bus in Birkenhead, where residents had the chance to experience what daily life can feel like for someone living with dementia. 🚍

🎥 In this video, the Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Mary Jordan, and Deputy Leader, Cllr Julie McManus, reflect on their experience and the importance of building a more dementia-friendly borough.

Local organisations were also involved in activities across the week and continue to support people living with dementia, their families and carers:

👉 WIRED
👉 Wirral Carers Alliance

Together, we’re building a more dementia-friendly Wirral.

❗️ Dates revealed! Weekly food waste collections are starting in Wirral from 6 July, in three phases:

🍏 The week beginning Monday 6 July
🧀 The week beginning Monday 27 July
🍞 The week beginning Monday 17 August

From June, you'll start receiving:

🗑️ An outdoor food waste caddy with a secure lid
🗑️ A smaller kitchen caddy for everyday use
🗑️ A roll of liners and information about how to use the service

A sticker on your outdoor caddy will tell you whether your food waste collections start on the week beginning 6 July, 27 July or 17 August. Your collections will be on the same day as your grey and green bin collection.

The new service is part of the Government’s ‘Simpler Recycling’ programme which has already seen a significant change this year in Wirral, with foil, aerosol sprays, plastic tubs and trays and drinks cartons now able to be recycled in your grey bins.

Look out for more updates soon.

🌟 There was a record turnout with more than 1,200 local residents visiting our latest jobs fair at Birkenhead Market.

With around 30 employers and training providers offering 275+ job opportunities, it was fantastic to see so many people connecting face-to-face, exploring new careers and taking positive steps towards employment. 🤝

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, and to our partner organisations including Jobcentre Plus and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority for making it happen.

Visitors told us they loved the friendly atmosphere and wide variety of opportunities - and many were attending a jobs fair for the very first time! 💬

Even better, some employers have already reported job offers made on the day and follow-up interviews booked.

If you're an employer interested in joining our next event, we'd love to hear from you - see first comment.

Are you a private landlord in Wirral? Make sure you’ve shared the official Renters’ Rights Act Information Sheet with all named tenants before 31 May 2026.

Since 1 May 2026, new rules have been introduced under the Renters’ Rights Act. As part of these changes, landlords must now provide tenants with key information about their rights.

⏰ By 31 May 2026, you must give all existing tenants the official Renters’ Rights Act Information Sheet (or written tenancy terms where the tenancy was previously verbal). This is a legal requirement. The council is now required to enforce these rules, and failure to comply may result in financial penalties – so don’t leave it to chance, make sure you’re up to date on your new responsibilities now.

Find out what you need to do and get the link to the Information Sheet in the comments 👉

☀️ While many of us might be looking forward to hotter weather starting this weekend, there's a risk of heat exhaustion, dehydration and sun exposure for people who are having to sleep rough without shade or enough water.

If you’re worried about someone, please report it (see first comment) so that support teams can check on them.

Reporting is quick and easy and it makes a difference.

🏊 Big news for swimming in Wirral – more people than ever are learning to swim

In the past year alone, 430 children and adults have started swimming lessons at our local leisure centres. That means more confidence in the water, more people staying safe, more chances to have fun and get active, and learning a skill that can save lives 💙

So what’s changed?
Active Wirral has teamed up with Swim England to create a Swimming Teacher Recruitment Academy. This helps local people train as swim teachers without the usual high cost, building new skills and careers while tackling the national shortage of swimming teachers.

⭐ Training reduced from around £1,000 to just £85, helping remove financial barriers
⭐ 11 new swim teachers have now qualified
⭐ More lessons are now running across Wirral

This means:
✅ More spaces in lessons
✅ Shorter waiting times
✅ More people of all ages able to learn close to home
