How to Notarise Malaysian Documents in the UK
If you need to use UK documents in Malaysia, notarisation and legalisation are crucial steps to ensure your papers are recognized by foreign authorities.
Why Notarisation Is Needed?
Notarisation adds an official seal of authenticity to your documents. For Malaysian documents to be valid in the UK, or vice versa, the local authority—be it a university, court, or business—typically requires proof that the documents are genuine and signed appropriately. Notaries in the UK are qualified legal professionals who verify identities and witness signatures, providing the assurance foreign entities seek.
The Notarisation and Legalisation Process Explained...
- Verification: Bring your original Malaysian document and identification to a UK notary public for verification and witnessing.
- Notarisation: The notary reviews, confirms authenticity, and certifies the documents with an official stamp.
- Apostille Certification: Due to Malaysia not being a signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention, your notarised document should be apostilled by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
- Embassy Legalisation: After apostille, the document must be taken to the Malaysian High Commission in London for consular legalisation.
What You’ll Need...
1) Original Malaysian documents
2) Valid photo ID and proof of address
3) Photocopies for embassy submission

Can I have my fingerprints notarised?
The answer to this question is very simple...Yes! You can indeed have your fingerprints on a document notarised.
Fingerprints are often used to verify identity, or for criminal background checks in numerous countries. The process of obtaining notarised fingerprints is to book a short appointment with us. Our notary will verify your identity using your valid passport or driving licence, and will then witness you impress your fingerprints on the document, before attesting who you are and that the fingerprints do indeed belong to you.
At this point the document can either be submitted to to the receiving party or be put forward for further legalisation such as with apostille or with consular stamps.
