The Friends of Ainslie & Larks Woods (FOAL) meet monthly to carry out practical conservation.

Originally part of the ancient 'Forest of Essex', the woods are located in suburban East London and home to an incredible diversity of funga, flora and fauna.

* The Wood Anemones need YOU! * CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS! *

The Friends of Ainslie & Larks Woods (FoAL) - that’s us! - was formed in December 2004 and have been looking after our lovely woods ever since. However, we are short of volunteers and aren't as young as we used to be(!) so we’re seeking new volunteers.

FoAL has monthly work sessions - the next is Sunday 13th April at 11am. To get involved or find out more, email Alan: [email protected]

New loggery! FoAL volunteers installed not one - but two - loggeries in Ainslie Wood on Sunday morning, just a few hours before it was blanketed in snow. These decaying wood structures provide habitats for stag beetles, as well as other invertebrates and fungi, helping our local wildlife. They’re also a good winter workout 💪

*IMPORTANT NEWS* A planning application has been submitted for 72 housing units over 7 storeys at the New Road nursery, directly abutting our beautiful Larks Wood. Friends of Ainslie & Larks Wood (FoAL) are very concerned that the proposals will harm the delicate ecosystem of the woods due to light and noise pollution, as well as exacerbating existing pressures (e.g. fly tipping, footpath erosion, trampling wildflowers, anti-social behaviour, dog fouling). *If you share these concerns, we encourage you to COMMENT via the link below by FRIDAY 7 OCTOBER*
