Annual Council, 27 May 2026 28/05/2026

Cllr Elizabeth Campbell has been confirmed as Leader for a third term and last night she set out exactly what that means.

Speaking at the Council's annual meeting, she told residents and fellow councillors that the mandate from this election was clear:

🔹 Deliver the basics brilliantly
🔹 Cleaner streets
🔹 Better-maintained public spaces
🔹 Faster services
🔹 Housing offer built on dignity and respect

She also took a moment to pay tribute to Cllr Kim Taylor-Smith, who steps down after nearly a decade as Deputy Leader. Cllr Campbell described him as not just a political colleague but a friend and someone who showed up for residents, and who always asked simply: "what is the right thing to do?"

A new-look leadership team has now been announced, with portfolios spanning housing, transport and clean streets, adult social care, families and children, finance, modernisation, and more.
