We have zero-tolerance for traders who put residents’ health at risk.
Our trading standards team successfully seized more than 66,000 illegal ci******es with an estimated retail value of more than £70,000 during a borough-wide crackdown on illicit to***co sales.
Executive Mayor, Jason Perry, said: “This operation demonstrates our zero-tolerance approach to those who profit from criminal activity at the expense of our communities. If you are selling illegal to***co in Croydon, we will take action.”

Jason Perry - Mayor of Croydon looks back on the week
It has been a busy and positive week in Croydon. Not only have our local team won their first European trophy, but we appointed a new Civic and Deputy Civic Mayor, confirmed a new Cabinet and launched our fly‑tipping reporting website.
I could not be prouder of Crystal Palace’s 1–0 victory over Rayo Vallecano in the UEFA Conference League Final – adding European silverware to the FA Cup and Community Shield, all achieved within a remarkable year. As a proud Palace supporter and season ticket holder, I know just how much this achievement means to the club, its fans and Croydon. I hope wherever you watched the game – in Leipzig, at Selhurst Park, in Boxpark Croydon, at the pub or at home you had a fantastic evening to remember. On our website you can read my open letter to the Chairman of the club, Steve Parish. Sadly, a parade will not take place immediately owing to players’ World Cup commitments. The club has said it hopes to organise celebrations later in the summer. We stand ready to facilitate the club in any way.
"It was good to catch up with Palace legend Mark Bright at the Levi Roots charity golf day. Levi is a great supporter and mentor of our young people in the borough, and it was an honour to open his latest fundraising event, supporting a number of charities including Legacy Youth Zone.
My first 100 days and our new Cabinet
At our Annual Council meeting on Wednesday, I set out my plans for the first 100 days of my second term as Mayor. I made it clear that my administration will continue our zero-tolerance approach to fly‑tipping, antisocial behaviour, graffiti, abandoned vehicles or any form of environmental crime. To help with this work, I presented our new Cabinet members who will lead on housing, finance, community safety, children’s services, streets, planning and regeneration. They bring a wealth of experience to serve our residents and together we will help create a cleaner and safer borough with improved services.
Welcome to our new Civic Mayor and Deputy Civic Mayor
Wednesday’s Annual Council meeting included a special Civic Mayor Making ceremony, which saw the the appointment of Councillor Mohammed Islam as Civic Mayor and Councillor Scott Roche as Deputy Civic Mayor. The Civic Mayor and Deputy Civic Mayor carry out ceremonial and public duties during their one-year term representing Croydon at community events across the borough. It is different to the role of Executive Mayor, who is elected by the residents of Croydon every four years to lead the Council. It is a great honour to be chosen for these historic posts, and I wish them all the best for the year ahead.
Fly-tippers beware!
I am calling on residents to help us crack down on fly‑tipping by reporting offenders and helping to identify those caught on camera on our new ‘name and shame’ webpage. We will be releasing CCTV footage of fly‑tipping incidents on the Council website and encouraging anyone who recognises those involved to report them so we can take further action. ‘Zero-tolerance’ is not just a slogan – those who damage and blight our borough will be pursued.
Take care in the hot weather
We have experienced some very high temperatures over the past week. I want to thank everyone who has been checking in on vulnerable friends, neighbours and family members. Please do continue to take care in the sun and have an enjoyable weekend all.

Croydon has appointed a new Civic Mayor and Deputy Civic Mayor at its Annual Council meeting on 27 May.
Councillor Mohammed Islam, Selhurst ward councillor and a Croydon resident since 1980, takes on the ceremonial role following a special mayor making ceremony. Councillor Islam lives in Selhurst with his family and is a founding member of the British Bangladeshi Society of Croydon, which supports local communities through education, culture and wellbeing initiatives.
During his term, the Civic Mayor will represent the borough at civic events and has pledged to promote inclusion, mutual respect and bring communities together across Croydon. This is different to the Executive Mayor, who is elected by the residents of Croydon every four years to lead the Council.
Councillor Scott Roche was also appointed as Deputy Civic Mayor. The Shirley South ward councillor was previously cabinet member for streets and environment, where he worked on a range of areas including transport, sustainability, and environmental services. He is looking forward to meeting residents from our strong and diverse communities and supporting local events and initiatives.
Welcome to our new Civic Mayor and Deputy Civic Mayor.
