Westminster Labour freezes core Council Tax to keep bills low - Westminster Labour Councillors 08/03/2026

Labour Westminster Council has frozen the core part of Westminster's Council Tax for 2026/27 to help residents with cost-of-living pressures.

The adult social care precept – which helps fund care for older and vulnerable residents – will increase by 2%. For a Band D property, that’s around 20p extra per week.

We’re keeping council tax low while continuing to invest in homes, high streets and community teams – supporting local people through the cost-of-living crisis.

Our local Safer Neighbourhood Team report that quarter on quarter "theft from the person" often including phone theft is down significantly the same quarter in 2024. Westminster Labour have brough back the council run CCTV that that the previous Tory led council got rid of and now have nearly 200 cameras monitored 24/7 with 30 of them in Soho alone! The Mayor has promised the West End and extra 80 police officers. So as we enter 2026 we are making real progress to make Soho safer again. Plenty of things are not right but more CCTV, more police and less crime in the West End are things we should all celebrate. And to top it all we are taking firm action against nuisance car drivers and bikes with dozens of FPN issued every week.

Westminster’s Labour led council is funding a number of great community initiatives. Here I visit Nature Sacred a secluded bit of Mount Street Gardens where we have installed 3 impressive teak benches as part of Bature Sacred. Tucked underneath each bebch is a journal that anyone can contribute their thoughts and musings of the day. Eventually they are collated into a book that get published. It’s incredibly special partnership between local resident Anne Gray, the Mayfair Neighbourhood Forum and Westminster Council. Take a look or better still pop down!

Flagship London council hires own police officers for the first time to tackle crime 24/08/2025

Our local residents concerns are the top priority as Labour led Westminster City Council hires police officers for the first time to tackle crime. We are set to recruit our own police officers to crack down on crime in central London.
Nine Met officers will join the town hall’s new Police and Council Tasking Team (PACT) who will work alongside other enforcement departments to identify persistent offenders. The £3million taskforce will help tackle “persistent and high impact anti-social behaviour” and “provide a highly visible uniformed presence” in streets singled out as crime hotspots. Having reversed Tory cuts to CCTV and invested in 200 cameras that are monitored 24/7 and we are about to introduce a number of Public Space Protection Orders addressing nuisance cars, motorbikers who disturb the peace and disruptive noisy pedicabs as well as ASB, we plan to clean up central London.
