Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating in Westminster and across the world.
Labour failed Westminster on Oxford Street. We are going to fight back.
Our new Cabinet Member for Growth, Cllr Tim Barnes, was on Oxford Street to set out the position to residents.
We've worked over the weekend with legal counsel to explore all options for a judicial review of Sadiq Khan's pedestrianisation. The deadline was today. After such a long time of Labour not filing a JR, and with so little time left, the advice is that it is simply impossible to file for a successful JR at this late stage.
Labour blocked our fighting fund. They voted us down at every turn. They surrendered Oxford Street to the Mayor. That is Labour's legacy.
A Labour government. A Labour Mayor. A Labour Council. All working hand in glove. Capitulation and collusion against the residents, businesses and workers of Westminster.
Worst of all, Labour ignored disabled and elderly residents who rely on direct buses to reach Oxford Street.
But this fight is not over. Westminster has a new Conservative council and a new mandate. We will explore every legal avenue to stand up for residents.
Our offer to the Mayor stands. Sit down with me. Find a plan that delivers for Oxford Street. The door is open, but Westminster will not be ignored.
