We are Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking. We believe that a walking nation means progress for everyone.

We want to create a walking nation, free from congested roads and pollution, reducing the risk of preventable illness and social isolation and making walking the natural choice. Our ambition is to get people of all generations to enjoy the benefits that this simple act brings and to ensure all our streets are fit for walking. For more than 85 years we’ve been a beacon for walking. In our early day

What week it was – from stepping out in Monmouthshire and walking with Lilian Greenwood MP in Liverpool, to strolling in the sunshine with Ed Clancy and Ed Miliband. And of course, Strider was there to celebrate with pupils!

A new report reveals that neglected, poorly lit pavements and too few public toilets are preventing many older people from walking and wheeling as part of their daily routine. The report corresponds with our own findings.

Our Slips, Trips and Falls report found that there could be as many as one million outdoor falls among people aged over 65 in England each year. Ahead of Living Streets' National Walking Month, we also asked people what stops them walking more, and nearly one in five over 55s said 'a lack of public toilets'
