Day in Oxford = a day spent with inspiring people who take a genuine interest in the Czech Republic 🇬🇧✨
Together with Ambassador Bartuška, we met with students of Czech for an informal Q&A 🎓💬, followed by an evening in conversation at Harris Manchester College 🏛️, hosted by Professor Beth Breeze, Principal of the College. The discussion reflected on 1989, public service, and much more.
Earlier in the day, we also enjoyed an informal lunch with Valerie Amos, Master of University College, and valued the opportunity for an open and friendly exchange 🍽️💬
Thank you to the University of Oxford and Harris Manchester College for the invitation and the warm, open atmosphere 🤝

✨ Diplomacy across generations ✨
One conversation. Two eras. One changing world. 🌍
The Embassy was delighted to welcome students from the Global Diplomacy Initiative (GDI) at the University of Westminster — a dynamic, student‑led society connecting future diplomats with academics, practitioners, and policy‑makers.
During their visit, students took part in an inspiring discussion with Ambassador Václav Bartuška and Sir Michael Burton, former British Ambassador to the Czech Republic (1994–1997). The conversation offered a rare insight into how diplomacy was practiced in the 1990s and how the role of diplomats has since evolved in an increasingly complex world.
A meaningful exchange of perspectives, experience, and ideas — and a reminder that while the world continues to change, diplomacy remains as vital as ever. 🌍🤝

BATA HERITAGE CENTRE - OPEN DAY
On Saturday 25th April, the Bata Heritage Centre in East Tilbury will host an Open Day at Building 13 and East Tilbury Library! The programme includes an exhibition, family history research (10:00–13:00), guided tours at 11:00, 11:30 and 12:00 (booking required), and a free afternoon talk on Bata’s history and heritage.
A unique opportunity to 'step in Bata's shoes' and discover his legacy here in the UK.
