Today is your opportunity to choose who will be your Councillors on Bromley Council for the next four years.

Here in Orpington ward, you are represented by two councillors so you will have two votes. Please vote for both Lib Dem candidates - Steve Sollitt and Allan Tweddle.

For too long, the Conservatives have taken Orpington for granted and not given residents the service they are entitled to expect.. Now is your opportunity to change that and let us show you just how hard we will work for our community.

We will stay in touch, listen to residents, and stand up for everyone. With your support, we can be the voice you need on Bromley Council.

Here's what you need to know:
⌚Polls are now open until 10pm today.
📸You need photo ID to vote

Liberal Democrats are proud to serve their community. We don’t sow division; we fix potholes and church roofs, and we always sweat the small things. 🔶

Vote Liberal Democrat this Thursday to elect a local champion for your community. 🗳️

People across the country are turning to the Liberal Democrats as the only party that can stop Reform and elect strong local community champions.

We focus on church roofs, sewage and the cost of living, not copying the Trump playbook of divisive populism.

The inaugural meeting of Bromley Citizens' Assembly took place on 30 April. All the leaders of political parties currently sitting on Bromley Council were invited to answer questions, the Lib Dems were represented by Cllr Chloe-Jane Ross.

Bromley Citizens is the local branch of Citizens UK, bringing together organisations including London South East Colleges, Community Links, Bromley Foodbank, Cleaner and Greener, local churches and the Al Emaan centre, to campaign on the issues that matter most to residents.

The political party representatives were asked to support action on four key areas: the cost of living, young people’s mental health, community cohesion and housing.

On behalf of the Liberal Democrats, Chloe-Jane backed all four (the only leader to do so). She supported expanding the London Living Wage, something already delivered by Lib Dem councils elsewhere but still not adopted by Bromley’s Conservative-led council.

Chloe-Jane also committed to working with Bromley Citizens on a youth mental health strategy, including the Lib Dem ambition for every school to have access to a mental health professional, as well as a new Social Cohesion Strategy.

Finally, she backed the creation of a community land trust, to help deliver genuinely affordable homes in Bromley. We look forward to continuing to work with Bromley Citizens to deliver real change for residents.

Could Lib Dems become the biggest party in English local government? 01/05/2026

What does everyone think? Possible? It would be good for local government if it came true! Please comment below ..... Can we do it?

Happy rest of this (sunny!) Friday!

Could Lib Dems become the biggest party in English local government? With voter loyalty a distant memory, the Lib Dems’ cost of living policies and criticism of Trump could gain them ground

To celebrate Bromley FC's promotion to Sky Bet League One there will be an open top bus parade in Bromley Town Centre on Monday.

Starting at 12:45pm on the bank holiday, the parade will start at the top of Elmfield Road, head down the High Street and end where Elmfield Road meets the High Street - before Bromley South Train Station.

The High Street will be closed between 11:30am and 2pm and, in a change from previous parades, this one will travel down the non-pedestrianised area of the High Street.

Sarah D**e MP leads cross-party call for mandatory animal welfare labelling on meat products 29/04/2026

Lib Dem environment spokesperson Sarah D**e has led an open letter signed by 22 cross-party MPs and Lords calling for mandatory animal welfare labelling on meat products.

The letter has recently been sent to Dame Angela Eagle, the minister for food security and rural affairs, and also calls for the welfare labelling to be clear and consistent. It is supported by leading animal welfare organisations such as the Animal Law Foundation, Compassion in World Farming and Humane World for Animals UK.

MPs and peers warn misleading and inconsistent labelling is stopping shoppers making real informed choices and is undermining animal welfare.

Sarah said: “People want to buy food that matches their values, but right now it’s too easy for shoppers to be misled by vague welfare claims on meat products that are masking low-welfare practices like caging."
