We’re turning forgotten spaces into new homes and showing how small sites can make a big difference in tackling the housing crisis 🏡

In Southall, there’s a plot on Recreation Road that locals will recognise – a row of derelict garages that’s been sitting unused for years. Now, we’re taking a big step to bring it back to life.

We’ve appointed a local architect-developer, Oddment, to transform the site into 4 family-sized homes (subject to planning permission).

Oddment is a small, local business – and one of its founders grew up right here in the borough.

We’ll also be working closely with local residents as plans develop, with opportunities to share feedback and shape the project.

We’ve cleared more than 1,000 abandoned vehicles from the streets and housing estates.

This vehicle was abandoned with no tax, MOT, insurance or registered owner.

The operation, which began in September last year, has seen 1,000 vehicles towed away in the first 7 months.

Most of the these were lifted from public roads, with around 125 removed from council housing estates and 2 from private land. In previous years, the council typically removed up to 400 abandoned vehicles across an entire year.

The vehicles that have been seized include a Maserati, Rolls Royce, Jaguar and several Audis.

Work is ongoing, with teams continuing to remove abandoned and untaxed vehicles from across the borough.

This woman grew up alongside 13 foster children...

For as long as Lidia can remember, fostering has been part of her life.

Her parents have been foster carers for more than 25 years, caring for around 20 children over that time.

She watched young people arrive struggling with confidence and trust, before slowly beginning to feel safe, supported and hopeful again 🙌

Seeing that transformation inspired her to give back and become a social worker.

But years later, she and her partner decided to go a step further and become foster carers themselves.

Their first foster child was introduced gradually, spending time with them before moving in fully, something that helped everyone settle in 🏡

Fast forward to today – they've now cared for 7 young people, mostly teenagers.

And even after moving on, many still stay in touch.

“They come back to visit. They want to be part of the family.”

A man who was caught using a stolen blue badge issued for disabled drivers has landed in court.

What might have seemed like an easy shortcut has cost over £1,000 in fines, court costs and victim surcharge 💰

Every stolen or misused badge takes away vital parking access from disabled residents who genuinely rely on it, which is why our enforcement teams seize dozens every month.
