A crisis in a crisis – the charity workers going on strike Those responsible for helping the UK’s most vulnerable say they are having to turn to food banks

The Tory government has made catastrophic choices and its economic plan will affect people already struggling with the highest inflation levels in 40 years. But workers are organising against their bosses and the government through strike action.

Join rs21 for a public meeting to discuss how we build real power in the workers’ movement, unite the strikes, and escalate in the face of anti-strike laws and authoritarian crackdowns from the Tory government.

The meeting will be chaired by rs21 member Jaice Titus and will feature striking UCU member Jonny Jones, senior nurse and workplace activist Ameera Sheikh, and a representative of London Renters Union. After the introductions the meeting will focus on an open discussion with an aim to make concrete plans to build power and solidarity in London and beyond. Please invite friends and comrades!

Today's solidarity march passed through central Tooting raising awareness and solidarity with precarious workers facing the Tories hostile environment policy.

Two weeks ago police were stopping fast food delivery drivers looking for 'covid violations' alongside immigration officers; an action the local MP has described as 'racial profiling'. Over 80 local Trade Unionists and anti-racists joined the march leafleting the public as we passed to raise awareness of the situation and raise the profile of the local anti-racist movement.

Local anti-racists (www.wandsworthsutr.org) have been reaching out to local courier riders affected and the march was led, in part, by riders with their union organisers from the IWW.

The mass action in Glasgow two weeks ago shows the sort of solidarity action that is possible. In Glasgow hundreds of local residents surrounded immigration vans for 7 hours forcing the release of two migrants seized in a raid. This action didn't spring from nowhere but was the result of patient work by local organisations over a period of time.

We need an anti-racist movement with the roots to repeat these actions wherever the state targets migrant workers - building support in all our unions and community organisations to stand with our brothers and sisters. Whoever lives here, is from here.
