This Saturday from 11am we are having a Community bulb-planting session in Chris’ Wood.
Today a couple of us spent a three hours clearing an area of Chris’ Wood ahead of tomorrow’s bulb-planting. We removed cow parsley, nettles, and chickweed, leaving any snowdrops behind. A few years ago a group from Good Gym cleared the area of brambles for us, and it was notable how the brambles have stayed away.
We have two thousand of woodland bulbs (wild garlic and bluebells) to plant, which in future years will provide us with a succession of flowers from late December all the way through to June. We are planting “bulbs in the green” which generally have a higher success rate.
We have gloves and hand trowels, but it would be great if you were able to bring your own kit (e.g hand trowel/fork/sturdy gloves/a knee mat etc).
When to meet: This Saturday from 11 onwards.
Where to meet: We will be in Chris’ Wood (see map below), which is just south of the Art Pavilion and behind Clinton Road (by the site of the old Grove Road Texaco Garage).
