Five years ago today, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global public health emergency.

For many workers without access to full pay sick pay, that moment exposed a brutal reality: go to work sick — or lose your income.

This is the choice Emanuel was forced to face, and he paid the ultimate price.

The Emanuel Gomes Organising School (EGOS) exists so no worker is ever put in that position again.
