This wasn’t just a fundraising dinner, it was a statement of intent.
The 1987 Committee brought together MPs, councillors, young leaders and community changemakers to support Labour candidates and strengthen pathways into politics for the next generation.

In the room were powerful conversations about social justice, equity, representation and civic responsibility and a shared commitment to backing those who will lead with integrity and lived experience.
This is how change happens.
By building networks.
By investing in people.
By creating access where there was once exclusion.
Let’s support our candidates at the local elections in anyway possible for them to be elected or re-elected at the upcoming elections in May. If you care about grassroots politics and care about youth voice, fair representation and a politics that truly reflects our communities, come and join us.
Thank you always Dawn Butler David Burton-Sampson MP & Amanda Martin MP for showing up for the Committee, the candidates and the youth. Your support matters!

What an incredible evening for the 1987 Committee!
We brought together MPs, councillors, local Labour candidates, youth leaders and community partners for an inspiring fundraising dinner focused on strengthening grassroots political leadership.

Thank you to every MP and speaker who gave their time to support emerging candidates ahead of the local elections. Your encouragement and visibility means more than you know.
To the young people and community leaders in the room, your engagement and questions reminded us exactly why this work matters.

The 1987 Committee is committed to building leadership pathways, supporting candidates and ensuring representation is not accidental but intentional.
We look forward to being out on the ground supporting candidates in the coming weeks.

In Conversation with James Asser , Tonight, 7PM on our YouTube channel.
Politics often looks polished from the outside but the journey into public life is rarely straightforward, and the realities behind the scenes are far more demanding than most people ever see.
The 1987 Committee sits down with James Asser MP for one of our most open and reflective conversations yet exploring his personal journey, the tough realities of political life, and the hope, resilience and advice he wants to pass on to the next generation of Labour leaders.
In this intimate and honest discussion, he speaks about:
• How his lived experiences shaped his values and political purpose
• The realities of navigating Parliament, community expectations and public scrutiny
• What keeps him grounded when political life becomes difficult
• How new leaders can enter politics with courage, clarity and authenticity
• Why representation and community-rooted leadership matter now more than ever
This conversation is not just for those in public office it’s for anyone considering stepping forward, anyone serving their community, and anyone who believes in the power of political leadership to create real change.
