Woodberry Wetlands is a ground-breaking project which will enhance and open up the East Reservoir in Stoke Newington as a public nature reserve

Woodberry Wetlands was opened by Sir David Attenborough in 2016, having previously been known as Stoke Newington East Reservoir. The wetlands are the result of a proposal by the Trust to enhance the reservoir for wildlife and open it up so people can access a high quality, natural space in a densely built-up environment.

Anyone who's visited Woodberry Wetlands would've spotted one of our resident foxes, she is not like any other foxes, often seen lying on the grass sunbathing or roaming around looking for her next catch, which is something she's been doing a lot of lately considering she's hunting for herself and 2 three-month old cubs, we had a chance to see those cheeky characters a few days a go.

Goldfinch, seen all year round at Woodberry Wetlands. A flock of goldfinches is called a charm. They’re social birds and once the breeding season is over, they can be seen roaming for food in flocks around 40 strong. If you’re yet to see goldfinches in your garden, leave out a few of their favourite foods like Niger seed or sunflower hearts. You could also try growing teasels and lavender, both of which are known to attract these pretty songbirds.

In the 19th century, great crested grebes were almost wiped out as a species, they were hunted mainly for their head plumes, which were used as decorations on hats. πŸ“Έ Hadi El Ali https://www.instagram.com/hads_inst/

Our new river swans have done it again this year, although a little earlier than we predicted but 5 little healthy cygnets hatched out of a total of 6 eggs, they are already being shown their new territory by their parents which will be their home for the next 7-8 months, see pic 2 where chick number 5 is pecking it's way out, those photos have been taken during the first hour of those little cygnets' lives. πŸ“Έ https://instagram.com/hads_inst?igshid=ZGUzMzM3NWJiOQ==
