The autumn school term is now well underway. 🍁🍂
Below are some of the emotional and behavioural indicators that a child or teenager may exhibit following experiences of sexual abuse.
• Having nightmares or night terrors
• Bed wetting
• Being withdrawn from activities they used to enjoy participating in
• Pretending to be unwell
• Refusing to go to school
• Becoming argumentative and irritated easily
• Depression and anxiety
• Self-harming
• Self-loathing
• Running away from home
• Drug and alcohol misuse
As children transition into adolescence, some of the indicators listed may merely reflect the challenges associated with muturation.However, every childhood is valuable and deserves to be protected. Therefore, it is imperative that we remain vigilant in our efforts to combat this heinous crime against minors within our local communities.
