It's been many years since the hall has seen new paint. We ordered this lovely yellow ochre limewash from .paints and thought that it may have been a bit bright, but after we got it on one of the panels we fell in love. With the addition of a beautiful red ochre linseed oil paint, the hall looks 15 years younger!

The site was busy last weekend with national training event Wychurst at War. Members from all over the country come down, camp, fight, hang out and generally have a fantastic time
We love seeing the site busy with tents, people and campfire smoke

A little moment around site shows the lovely spring growth. We were not sure the apple and pear trees survived but this apple tree is thriving in the warm April air.
Apples and oears were important food stuff in the medieval period and so we have planted a small orchard behind the hall to see if they will grow in the clay soil.

It's been busy up at Wychurst the last few weeks. One of our ongoing projects is giving the hall a fresh coat of paint. And that includes the decorative carvings! Cannot wait to see these bright and clean once again.

12th night, the end of the winter celebrations. This year the skies were clear with a bright moon, the air was cold with frost and the hall was bursting with warm light and laughter.
This event is where our hall comes to life, standing outside listening to the sounds in the hall, you can briefly imagine what a feast of this importance would have been like in the Anglo-Saxon period

Beautiful skies on site after a long day of working.
We have scaffolding up around the new tower, which gave us a lovely view of the sunset. Could not have asked for a better evening

New ridge who dis?
The hall has been standing for over 20 years and it's now time to start focusing on making repairs. First step is to remove the old ridge line, place some lead, and put new shingles on

It's been a quieter year at Wychurst, but we are gearing up to get back to work. We did a lot of work in the spring and then summer was really busy for our volunteers outside of Wychurst.
But we are excited to get back at it! With lots of projects to finish, we are looking forward to having some buildings finished and renovations done on the hall

Our hearts go out to Flag Fen Archeology Park for this recent wantless vandalism. Years ago we were also vandalised and have now come back stronger, thanks to the generous donation from the wider public.
We can only hope that they can also come back stronger, with the help of our followers.
Emergency appeal: Iron Age Roundhouse destroyed by fire.
On Sunday night (13 July), vandals set fire to our Iron Age roundhouse, but despite the fire brigadeโs efforts, the roundhouse has been almost completely destroyed. ๐
Built in 2022, the roundhouse has been a key educational and visitor space, allowing over 10,000 school children each year to experience life 2,500 years ago. Its loss is heartbreaking - we urgently seek help to rebuild.
