Beyond the Rajapaksas, their allies also denounce and vilify the Tamil diaspora. Why do they fear the diaspora? Because many in the diaspora can exercise free speech more freely than people inside Sri Lanka and can mobilise to demand justice—an ongoing threat to those who benefited from looting and repression. - Read the full article - Link in comment.

📢📢📢📢Update: Protest Cancellation Notice
The protest scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled. This follows the decision by the Oxford Union to cancel the planned speech by Namal Rajapaksa. This shows that those associated with genocide and repression are not welcome, and it marks an important victory for students and the people’s movement.
Thank you to everyone who showed interest and stood in solidarity.

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨UPDATE: Oxford Union event with Namal Rajapaksa
Recent media reports, including coverage by Cherwell, indicate that the Oxford Union has cancelled the scheduled speaking event featuring Namal Rajapaksa following significant backlash from students and Tamil organisations.
This development comes after sustained concerns were raised about providing prestigious academic platforms to representatives of the Rajapaksa political dynasty, widely associated with allegations of genocide, war crimes, repression, and impunity in Sri Lanka. Similar pressure previously led the Cambridge Union to cancel its event, concluding that a “balanced and open discussion” was not possible under current circumstances.
🚨🚨🚨However, as of now, we await an official public announcement or formal confirmation directly from the Oxford Union.🚨🚨🚨
We will continue to monitor developments closely and provide updates once an official statement is released.
Accountability, justice, and respect for survivors must remain central to academic and public discourse.

To grant such a figure a platform within the Oxford Union and the Cambridge Union is not academic engagement, it is political rehabilitation.
Please read the statement - and share widely as possible - Contact us if you can help with this campaign.

Sri Lankan “Independence Day” – Independence for whom?
Behind the celebrations is a hard truth: this is not our independence.
For Sri Lankan Tamils, Tamil-speaking people, and other oppressed communities, freedom has never been real. The Sinhala-Buddhist supremacist state continues genocide, land grabs, militarisation, and the suppression of democratic rights.
The new NPP government is no different. Buddhist encroachment in Tamil areas continues
Tamil Solidarity stands against all oppression.
We call on all oppressed people in Sri Lanka to unite, build a mass opposition, and fight back.
No justice, no freedom. This is not our independence.

What should be the priorities for Tamils in today’s complex global and Sri Lankan situation?
At a time of deep economic crisis, rising authoritarianism, and growing repression, Tamils face urgent political, democratic, and national questions that cannot be postponed.
📄 Tamil Solidarity fully endorses this important statement from the United Socialist Party (USP), which offers a clear Marxist analysis and a serious strategy for advancing Tamil rights—while building unity with Sinhala, Muslim, Hill Country Tamil workers and oppressed communities.
This is a draft for discussion among:
• Left parties
• Tamil organisations
• Activists and trade unionists
✊ The article challenges illusions in imperialism, exposes the failure of capitalist governments and Tamil leaderships, and argues for a united mass struggle for democratic and national rights.

Last night in Renfrewshire, a Tamil refugee family, survivors of years of displacement in Diego Garcia and India, were violently attacked in their own Home Office accommodation.
Masked attackers tried to break in, smashed windows, and returned again and again for nearly 90 minutes.
The terrified family called the police at 10:40 pm. Their lawyer also called many times. No officers ever came. Only the next day at 4:20 pm did the police phone them again.
This is not an isolated event. It is part of a wider pattern of hostility that refugee families are facing on UK streets TODAY.
Racism has no place here.
We demand answers. We demand safety. We demand accountability.

Families fleeing war and persecution should find peace, not more hate.
Blue Magpie Foundation work directly with Tamils from Diego Garcia, supporting their integration through education, translation, and practical assistance. This is why we cannot stay silent when our communities are attacked.
