Good Friday is a poignant day in Holy Week, a day to come together and give thanks, and to reflect on Christ's sacrifice and his teachings of compassion and forgiveness.

I wish all Christians in Barking & Dagenham a blessed, peaceful day.

Great to join the community-led celebration of 55 years Independence for Bangladesh today!

The opportunity to organise a celebration like this is open to all groups, and I look forward to joining a similar event for Autism Acceptance on Monday led by the Sycamore Trust.

What a fantastic new resource: a brand new youth centre for the borough in Marks Gate.

We are committed to working with young people in the borough to have their own facilities that they can be proud of, and spaces where they can meet each other and get support and guidance to maximise their opportunities.

Had a great morning at yesterday’s Barking & Dagenham Chamber of Commerce networking event hosted by Future Youth Zone. Thank you to the Chamber for inviting me to speak, and to all the brilliant local businesses who took the time to connect. It was great to hear your stories, your ambitions, and the work you're doing to drive growth in Barking and Dagenham.

Events like these show the power of collaboration. Whether you’re a start up, an established business, or a growing social enterprise, strong networks help unlock new opportunities and the event was a brilliant reminder of the talent and energy we have right here in our borough.

As a council, we’re focused on building a strong, inclusive, and opportunity rich local economy. That’s exactly what our campaign is all about showcasing the incredible things already happening in Barking & Dagenham and shining a spotlight on the people and organisations who are shaping our future. So, make sure to sign up and become a member of the chamber’s today.

And if you’re a local business and want to keep up to date with the latest support and events – I recommend you sign up to our Business Forum newsletter by emailing [email protected].
