ADDRESS TO THE GOOD PEOPLE OF RIVERS STATE
Fellow citizens of Rivers State,
It has become necessary to speak to you at this critical time in our political history. The events of today, where Governor Similaye Fubara was prevented from presenting the state budget at the Rivers State Assembly Complex because the complex was locked, are not just a political embarrassment but a direct assault on the democratic integrity of our state. This shameful act, orchestrated by forces loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike, reflects the dangerous grip of greed and power obsession that threatens the peace and progress of Rivers State.
Let us ask ourselves: How can one man seek to control everything—state power, national influence, and even the direction of our political institutions? Nyesom Wike served as the governor of Rivers State, and the people gave him the mandate to lead for eight years. After completing his tenure, he was elevated to the position of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Instead of focusing on his national role, why is he so determined to control the affairs of Rivers State from Abuja? Why is he so unwilling to let Governor Fubara exercise the authority freely given to him by the people of Rivers State?
This is not how leadership works. Leadership is about service, not domination. Every political leader who came before Wike served their term and handed over power peacefully. Why, then, does Wike believe that he alone should control the political destiny of Rivers State indefinitely? Why must the will of the people be held hostage to the personal ambitions of one man and his political cronies? This is not leadership—it is greed and selfishness disguised as political strategy.
The people following Wike are not doing so in the interest of Rivers State; they are doing so for their own selfish gain. They know that what Wike is doing is wrong, yet they support him because they want to continue benefiting from the political crumbs he throws their way. They are not fighting for the good of the state; they are fighting to secure their political survival and personal wealth. True leadership is about empowering the people, not enslaving them. It is about building institutions, not destroying them for personal gain.
Why should House of Assembly members, elected to represent the people of Rivers State, take orders from an FCT minister in Abuja instead of standing behind their governor, who is constitutionally elected to lead the state? When Wike was governor, no one dared to undermine his authority. He commanded respect and loyalty. Why, then, should Governor Fubara be treated differently? Why should he not be allowed to govern freely, without the interference of a former governor turned federal minister?
Governor Fubara has shown remarkable restraint and patience in the face of provocation. But there comes a time when even a peaceful man must stand his ground. Governor Fubara must now assert his authority as the leader of Rivers State and refuse to be intimidated by political mercenaries working at the behest of Wike. The people of Rivers State elected Governor Fubara to serve them, and he must be allowed to fulfill that mandate without interference.
To the people of Rivers State, the time to stand united is now. We cannot afford to be divided by selfish politicians whose only interest is to remain in power at all costs. We must stand firmly behind Governor Fubara and defend the democratic mandate that we collectively gave him. Rivers State belongs to all of us—not to one man or a group of power-hungry politicians.
If we allow Wike and his political allies to succeed in undermining Governor Fubara, we will all suffer the consequences. Our children will suffer, our communities will suffer, and the progress we seek as a state will be derailed. We must reject the politics of greed and selfishness and embrace a future where leadership is about service, not control.
Governor Fubara is working to build Rivers State, not destroy it. He has shown his commitment to good governance, accountability, and the welfare of the people. Let us support him. Let us encourage him. Let us send a clear message to those who seek to destabilize our state that Rivers people will not stand by and watch their future being sabotaged for selfish gain.
To Wike and his supporters, the message is clear: Rivers State is not anyone’s personal property. Leadership is not a birthright—it is a mandate from the people. Wike has had his time, and now it is Governor Fubara’s turn to lead. It is time for Wike to focus on his duties as FCT Minister and allow Governor Fubara to fulfill his own mandate without interference. The time for political manipulation is over.
Fellow Rivers people, let us rise above division and selfishness. Let us stand together to protect the future of our state. Stand with Governor Fubara. Stand for truth, justice, and progress. Rivers State belongs to all of us. Together, we can defend our democracy and secure a brighter future for our children.
With all honesty. Let’s all stand for the truth. Nothing but the truth.
Long live Rivers State!
Long live Governor Similaye Fubara!
Long live the good people of Rivers State!
