Globalizing resistance on international women's day. Amazing talk by Imogen Evans about Marxism and Women's liberation.

She started by condemning the US' and Israel's war on Iran - bombing women and destroying their lives will not bring liberation. The fight for women's liberation must include a fight against all imperialist war and against the far right ✊✊✊

Join Sheffield Lumley Street Depot, July 9th, @ 6am!

After 11 months of strike action by Unite members at Veolia Lumley Street depot. The strikers, along with the support of regional Trades Councils, We Demand Change, local trade union branches, and other supporting groups are calling for a mass picket on the 9th July from 6am. This is to show Veolia and Sheffield City Council that workers have the right to be represented by the Trade Union of their choice. Those who have visited the picket know that these workers won’t be bullied back to work by management or their employer. Joel Mayfield (Striker), who spoke at Sheffield We Demand Change’s 500 person summit, talked about how essential solidarity is when workers go on strike in order for them to win.
The fight for Union Recognition is a fight for all workers’ rights.
The strike has reached a critical point and needs all out support.
Join the mass picket on Wednesday 9th July, from 6am
Veolia Sheffield Depot, Lumley St, Sheffield, S4 7ZJ
Bring banners, placards and solidarity!

📚 This Week’s SWP Sheffield Meeting: Palestine, Imperialism and the Struggle for Freedom
🗓 Thursday 19th June
📍St Mary’s Church, Bramall Lane, S2 4QZ

Book launch: Philip Marfleet

For over 100 years Palestinians have resisted colonial occupation, displacement, and dispossession. Yet much of their long history of resistance has remained hidden. Palestine, Imperialism, and the Struggle for Freedom follows their struggles against Britain, the Zionist settler movement, and the state of Israel. It looks in detail at the Great Uprising that resisted Britain’s Mandate regime, the intifadas that have challenged Israeli rule, and continuing efforts to resist colonisation of the West Bank and Gaza. It considers the achievements of the Palestinian national movement – and its crises and setbacks. The book also examines radicalising impacts of Palestinian resistance across the Middle East. It sees struggle against imperialism as the basis for social justice across the region and argues that revolutionary change in the Arab states will play a decisive role in the liberation of Palestine.

✊Come along, join the discussion and be on the right side of history. 🇵🇸

📍Unite Lumley Street Refuse workers March on Town Hall

📣Today, comrades joined the large march and rally by Unite Veolia workers and supporters outside Sheffield Town Hall. Refuse workers have been on strike for 8 months demanding union recognition which has been denied to them by Veolia.

They were also joined by CGT workers from Paris along with bin workers from the Birmingham strike. There were determined calls for Sheffield Council, who shamefully cancelled their meetings to ignore strikers, to intervene as they hold the bins contract with Veolia.

Comrades from Socialist Worker have been visiting the picket at Lumley Street Depot and will be going along on Friday 6-10am.

Please message if you wish to support the strike in your Trade Union branch or want to come down to the picket.

On February 1, over 5,000 people marched with Stand Up to Racism in a powerful counter-demonstration, outnumbering the far right and showing the strength of our movement.

Recently, Reform UK attempted to hold their first Sheffield branch meeting. Protesters made it clear their racist politics weren’t welcome, and under pressure, they cancelled, citing “safety concerns.” A victory - but just one battle in a much bigger fight.

Now, Reform UK is targeting Doncaster’s council elections, hoping to gain a foothold and expand their influence. We cannot let that happen.

📅 March 15 – Sheffield Stand Up to Racism: Resisting Reform UK Summit

We’re coming together to organise, strategise and take action. This is our chance to hear from activists, build local networks and plan how we stop Reform from gaining ground in our communities.

Tickets are available now via the link in our bio.

Join us. Be there. Let’s make sure Doncaster stands for solidarity, not hate.

We Refuse to go Backwards: Fighting Sexism Today!

An International Women’s public meeting hosted by Sheffield Socialist Workers Party

Saturday 8 March at 3 pm

United Reform Church, Norfolk St, S1 2JN

With speakers: Catherine Dwyer (WASPI campaign), Rania Obead (Sudanese activist), Sophia Beach (SWP central committee and co-author of ‘Why You Should Be a Socialist’)

Sexism on the rise. We face Donald Trump 2.0 and the rise of far right misogynists like Andrew Tate. In the UK, Starmer’s Labour is attacking Trans women and pushing through austerity that is hitting women the hardest.

Violence, harassment and abuse of women and girls is horrifyingly a part of every day life - sexism is at the heart of the system.

However, we’ve also seen women fighting back - from women in Palestine and Sudan to women in India taking strike action against abuse. For too long International women’s day has been stripped of it’s radical roots. The day was originally called ‘International _working_ women’s day’ and was about resistance to the rotten system and solidarity.

Join us in an afternoon of debate and discussion about how we can resist the rise of the far right and win a world free from oppression.

Elon Musk has doubled down on his support for Tommy Robinson, a violent fascist who thrives on hate and division. We cannot let fascists gain momentum. We’ve stopped them before. We’ll do it again.

Elon Musk just threw up the Sieg Heil. This isn’t just controversy - it’s one of the world’s most powerful figures openly promoting far-right extremism.

The far-right is gaining momentum, and on February 1st, they plan to march through London. We must stand against them.
