We are happy to announce that mayoral candidates have now committed to reversing the remaining £175k cuts to libraries!
We will all need to keep the pressure on to make sure these commitments turn into action.
Newham will be voting for a new Mayor on the 7th May. Together with a coalition of local groups we will be holding a community election hustings on May 2nd at the Tate Institute. More details to follow!

Hello everyone! We just wanted to say a big, big, big thank you for all your support in our Save Newham Libraries campaign.
This post is to celebrate our wins that we have won together as a community. It’s also an invitation to our celebration and next steps meeting, which will take place on Sunday 22nd March at 4:30pm at Newham Poetry House in Stratford Park.
We have come together in the spirit of community and care, and we’ve shown that our libraries are cherished and will not be swept out from under our feet.
The fight for our libraries continues, but we wouldn’t have come this far without you all
Have a lovely weekend 💐🌀📚

🎨 CALLING ALL NEWHAM RESIDENTS AND FRIENDS 🎨
After a big community campaign, Newham council has reversed some of the library cuts, but we still need a huge push from our community to say NO to ALL library cuts and ensure going into May elections that our libraries will come out stronger - not weaker.
Join us for a banner making session in Plaistow at the Memorial Community Church. These banners will be used for the demo on the 26th outside Stratford Town Hall.
No prior experience needed. We have all the materials you need!

'Instead of staying home being bored to tears, I often go to my local library to join in with activities taking place. For me they are accessible, welcoming, free community spaces. Lots of people I know from my church are also regular library users and the library hub every Tuesday is a great place to catch up and see each other.'
"At One Place East we know libraries offer Wi-Fi, computers, quiet areas, accessible facilities and support that many disabled and low- income residents rely on for connection, learning and independence. Losing these spaces isn't just a service cut - it's removing one of the few places many people can go and be included. That's why we're supporting the Save Newham Libraries campaign to support these vital spaces from deep funding cuts."

Join Save Newham Libraries first public meeting on January 18th.
Newham Libraries are the beating heart of our community. The Council plans to slash our library budget by 50%. This could mean closures, staff cuts, and service reductions.
We're building a campaign to defend our libraries and we need you involved!
Here, we will be hearing from some brilliant speakers, including local authors, library workers and inspiring campaigners who have won in other parts of the country, as what is happening to our libraries is part of a broader trend of austerity.
Schedule:
- 4:30pm - 5:15pm: What's happening and what can WE do about it?
- 5:15pm - 5:45pm: Action Planning
- 5:45pm - 6pm Wrap up and next steps
- 6pm - Dinner!
