πŸ’œ Supporting Independent Living – More Than Companionship . .

You may have noticed a little change to our page.

As A Caring Companion has grown, so too has the support we offer. We've evolved from a companionship service into something a little broader – Independent Living Support.

We're here for that stage of life when everyday things start becoming a little more difficult, but traditional care isn't needed. Perhaps confidence is slipping, getting out and about is harder, or a little practical help would make all the difference.

While many of the people we support are older, our services are for anyone who could benefit from a little help to maintain or regain their independence.

Our aim is simple – to help people stay active, connected and independent, living well at home for as long as possible.

From friendly companionship and practical help at home to outings, shopping, hospital and appointment support, dementia-friendly companionship and respite for family carers, we're here to help.

We've also introduced Occupational Therapy services, helping people to continue living safely at home and maintain or recover their mobility, confidence and independence following illness, injury or a change in circumstances.

And we're a little different from traditional care services. No uniforms, no branded cars – just friendly, kind, familiar faces offering genuinely personalised support.

But behind that relaxed approach is a professional service you can trust. Our Companions are carefully selected, trained and DBS-checked, and our services are fully insured.

Because you don't have to need traditional care to benefit from a little support.

πŸ’œ Stay independent. Stay connected. Stay living your life.

πŸ’œ A MORNING WITH JANE πŸ’œ

People often ask what our Companions actually do during a visit . . . and the answer is, its different for everyone.

Over the coming weeks, we'd love to share a little glimpse into the everyday lives of some of the lovely people we support.

These are real stories, based on the companionship and support we provide. Names, locations and some identifying details have been changed to protect our clients' privacy. We never share photographs of our clients so any accompanying images are AI-generated for illustrative purposes.

So, meet Jane . . .

Jane lives independently in her retirement apartment. She has a little dementia, but manages very well at home with a bit of support to keep everyday life running smoothly.

We visit Jane every weekday morning, usually arriving around 9.30am for a couple of hours.

Our mornings start with breakfast and a good chat over a cup of tea. Jane makes the tea, of course, while we wash up the breakfast dishes! We talk about the news, the weather, her working life, what we did at the weekend and whatever else comes up. Then we make a plan for the morning.

Some days we'll head out for groceries, or stop at a local cafΓ© for a coffee. We try to walk whenever we can, as keeping active is important. Jane chooses what she'd like to buy, and we're there to help carry the shopping home and unpack it together.

Other mornings might include a visit to a local social group, changing the bed together, putting on some washing or doing a little tidying. We're not cleaners, but we help Jane keep on top of the everyday jobs between her weekly cleaner's visits.

Jane is perfectly capable of doing most things herself. She just sometimes needs a little encouragement, a reminder or a helping hand. We help her plan her shopping, make sure there's plenty of easy, healthy food in the fridge and often leave her a sandwich ready for lunch.

Her family live nearby and are very involved in her life. But they love knowing that someone is popping in each morning, enjoying a chat with her, helping her get organised and making sure her day gets off to a good start.

And Jane enjoys getting out, choosing her own shopping, chatting to people and continuing to do the everyday things she's always done.

That's what companionship is all about.

We're not there to take over or do everything for Jane. We're there to help her carry on doing things for herself, enjoying her days and living independently for as long as possible.

πŸ’œ A Caring Companion – a little help makes a big difference.

If you know someone who could benefit from a little companionship and practical support in Malmesbury, Tetbury or the surrounding villages, we'd love to have a chat.

πŸ‚πŸ A lovely morning at Westonbirt Arboretum with one of our clients πŸ‚πŸ

She has an annual pass but hadn't been for a while.

Such beautiful autumn colours, and so lucky to get a bit of autumn sunshine too πŸ‚πŸ

Know someone who'd enjoy getting out and about a little more? Our friendly Companions are always happy to help make these lovely little outings possible. πŸ’œ

A Caring Companion started less than two years ago, when Clare felt that with a little help and good company, more older people could carry on living happily and independently in their own homes.

Today, we're a small team of four carefully chosen, friendly and kind Companions, helping older people – and anyone else who needs a bit of a hand – with everyday life.

We visit people in their own homes in Malmesbury, Tetbury and the surrounding villages. For some, that's once a week; for others, it's every day. And what we do really depends on what's needed that day.

It might be a trip to the supermarket for the weekly shop, a drive to Cirencester to look for a birthday present or a walk along the old railway track in Tetbury. It's about getting out, staying active and keeping the confidence to carry on doing the things you enjoy.
There's usually a coffee stop somewhere along the way. Sometimes cake too!

And sometimes we stay at home. We're not cleaners, but we're happy to help keep things comfortable, whether that's putting on some washing, having a bit of a tidy or preparing lunch. We might help with paperwork, order something online, arrange a doctor's appointment or simply sit down for a good chat.

It's practical help, without taking over.

We're all experienced, trained, insured and Enhanced DBS checked. We're patient, dementia-friendly and, most importantly, kind people who genuinely care about the people we visit.

We've recently added Occupational Therapy to our services too. Claire, one of our Companions, is also an experienced, HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist. She now offers home independence and safety assessments and personalised exercise programmes to help people stay safe, strong and mobile at home.
We're really proud of what we're building. Our companionship service has grown, and Occupational Therapy feels like a natural next step, allowing us to offer even more support to help people live well and independently for longer.

And that's us, really. Just four friendly faces offering good company, practical help and hopefully a few laughs along the way.

If you or someone you know could do with a little extra help to keep living well at home, give us a call.
