West Northants Council has activated its Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP)

SWEP will be in place until at least 9am on Monday 5 January in response to the Met Office's forecast of low overnight temperatures.

This means rough sleepers in West Northamptonshire will be provided with somewhere warm and dry to stay overnight.

All known rough sleepers are being made aware, but if you know someone sleeping rough who needs access to accommodation, please ask them to phone 0300 126 7000.

On September 21, 2017, three schoolboys—Devonte Cafferkey (13), Sammy Farah (14), and Shawn Young (12)—became unlikely heroes when they saved a man from attempting to jump from a bridge in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire.

While walking home from school, the boys noticed a man sitting on the edge of an overpass. Without hesitation, they approached him, offering words of comfort and urging him not to jump. As the situation escalated, they grabbed onto him, saving his life.

The boys' actions were recognized by the Royal Humane Society, and they received awards for their bravery. Their story serves as a powerful reminder of the impact one can have, regardless of age, when they choose to act with compassion and courage.
