Police officers have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to following a public order incident at the One Stop store in Main Road, Duston.

The incident happened at around 4.30pm on Sunday, May 10, when a man entered the store and was challenged by a member of staff after being suspected of shoplifting.

Officers believe the man pictured may have information that could assist with their enquiries.

Anyone who recognises him, or who has information about the incident, is asked to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Did you know that the previous Duston Parish Council (1895–1965) organised a village-wide referendum and campaign known as "Hands Off Duston" to oppose proposals for Duston to be incorporated into the Borough of Northampton?

The campaign reflected strong local feeling that Duston should retain its own identity and local governance. Despite these efforts, the campaign was unsuccessful, and Duston became part of Northampton Borough in 1965.

Interestingly, Northampton Borough itself was abolished in 2021 with the creation of West Northamptonshire Council.

Pictured here is a letter circulated in the early 1960s setting out the arguments in favour of Duston not becoming part of Northampton, offering a fascinating insight into a significant moment in our local history.
