On this day, we remember the courage and sacrifice of those who landed on the beaches of Normandy on 6 June 1944.

Their bravery helped secure the freedoms we enjoy today, and their legacy must never be forgotten.

We honour all who served, and all who gave everything.

Lest we forget.

Today is National Fish & Chip Day — a great chance to celebrate one of Britain’s best-loved traditions.

Across South Derbyshire, our towns and villages are home to fantastic local fish and chip shops, many of them family-run and at the heart of their communities.

Whether you’re in Swadlincote, Melbourne, Willington, Repton, Overseal or one of our surrounding villages, let’s support our local chippies today.

Where’s your favourite place for fish and chips in South Derbyshire?

They are no longer the Labour Party, they are the Welfare Party. It doesn’t matter who is in charge of these people, the party for Benefits Street will tax us all into poverty to pay for more welfare.

Pat McFadden has said in private what he and the Prime Minister deny in public. As I’ve said repeatedly, Labour MPs don’t understand where money comes from. They think our taxes are their money to spend, rather than the result of the hard work of the people in our country who deserve so much better.

The Conservative party is the only party holding Labour to account, as Reform, Lib Dems the SNP and others join Labour in demanding the state pay more and more benefits.

👋 Working for Etwall Ward

Cllr David Muller and I are proud to represent the residents of Etwall, Burnaston, Egginton and Dalbury Lees.

In recent years, we have worked hard to address the issues that matter most to our communities – from flooding and drainage concerns, highways and infrastructure improvements, planning matters, fly-tipping and environmental issues, to supporting local businesses, community groups and village events.

We remain committed to being visible, accessible and responsive local councillors who listen to residents and work hard to ensure local voices are heard.

Whether it's tackling local problems, supporting community initiatives, or representing residents' views to the Council and other organisations, we will continue to stand up for our villages and the people who call them home.

If there is an issue affecting your area, or if you have an idea that could help improve our ward, please get in touch.

Thank you to everyone who continues to contact us, attend meetings and share their views. Your support, feedback, and local knowledge help us better represent our communities.

💵 CONSERVATIVES DEFEAT PEAK DISTRICT CONGESTION CHARGING PROPOSALS AFTER REFORM UK U-TURN 🚗

A good result today at our Derbyshire County Council meeting.

Derbyshire Conservatives tabled a motion urging the Council to oppose any form of congestion charge, road user charging or pay-to-enter scheme for the Peak District.

The motion was prompted by frankly bizarre recent comments from the Reform UK Council Leader advocating charging motorists to enter the National Park using cameras and road charging technology.

Tonight, he attempted to row back on those remarks, saying they had been “taken out of context”, but importantly Reform ultimately supported our motion and agreed the Peak District should remain free and open to all.

As Britain’s first National Park celebrates its 75th anniversary, we believe residents and visitors alike should be able to enjoy Derbyshire’s countryside without facing extra charges simply for using public roads.

Motorists already pay enough through fuel duty, vehicle taxes and parking charges. The last thing families and local businesses need is another tax or charging scheme.

We are pleased that, after significant public concern and pressure from local Conservatives, the Council Leader has now effectively been forced back track on his previous position.

Reform claim to stand for low taxes, common sense and support for motorists, but the fact today’s motion was even necessary tells you everything you need to know.

A party that genuinely believed those things would never have proposed more cameras, more bureaucracy and more charges for Derbyshire residents in the first place. Their embarrassing U-turn today shows that when Reform’s slogans are tested against reality, they quickly fall apart.

Thank you to everyone who attended the recent Regulation 19 Information Session at Burnaston Village Hall. It was extremely well attended, with a wide range of important questions and discussions relating to the Regulation 19 Consultation on the amended Local Plan, particularly in relation to the proposed development of Land South of Mickleover.
,
It was encouraging to see so many residents taking an active interest in the future of our communities and engaging positively with the consultation process. These discussions are incredibly important in ensuring local voices are heard.

For anyone who was unable to attend, or for those who would like further information, the next session will take place on Thursday 28th May at 18:45. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Thank you again to all those who came along and contributed to such a constructive and informative evening.

Doctors now say social media is as bad for children as smoking.

Shocking, but no surprise to parents.

Conservatives led the campaign to protect under-16s online while Labour delayed, dodged and launched a totally unnecessary consultation.

We saw the danger months ago. It’s time for Labour to wake up, do the right thing and u-turn.

📰THE LADY IN GREY, SHARDLOW - DERBYSHIRE LIVE ARTICLE 🗞️

For too long this important listed building has been left to deteriorate, and the current situation simply cannot continue.

This is why I have been pushing so hard on the Lady in Grey.

After raising this publicly, speaking to the press and pushing for action, it is good to see the issue now getting wider attention.

The next step is for the additional information requested by planners to come in so the application can be validated and go live for public consultation in June🤞

That will finally allow everyone to see exactly what is being proposed and residents to have their say.

My position remains simple: something must be done to secure the future of the Lady in Grey, because doing nothing is not an option.

I will keep pushing to make sure this building, and Shardlow, get the attention they deserve.
