❤️ A HUGE THANK YOU, DUNCTON! ❤️
What a lovely evening! 🎆🔥

On behalf of the Parish Council, I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came along to our Bonfire & Fireworks Night and helped make it such a special evening.

Thanks to your kindness and generosity, we raised a wonderful £678.27 in donations! ❤️

Every single donation, big or small, is so gratefully received and will help us continue putting on this event for our village.

A massive thank you also goes to everyone who gave their time, helped behind the scenes or lent a hand on the night. We really couldn't do it without you!

It's evenings like these that remind us just how lucky we are to be part of such a wonderful little village community.

Thank you all so much for your support. It really does mean a lot!

** UPDATE ** Water Leak 💧 Duncton A285
FORMAL COMPLAINT SUBMITTED

The leak located near the Catholic church at the north end of the village has now been reported to Southern Water on a number of occasions under several different reference numbers. Despite the leak remaining clearly present, previous reports have subsequently been shown on Southern Water’s system as repaired/closed.

Southern Water has also previously attended the location and left signage confirming that they were aware of the leak and that it was being repaired. However, the leak remains unresolved, more than 30 days after it was first reported.

Given the repeated reporting and lack of clarity over why these reports are being closed, I have now raised a formal complaint with Southern Water.

I have asked Southern Water to:

• Confirm the current outstanding reference number and expected repair date.
• Explain why previous reports were closed as repaired when the leak remains.
• Confirm what action is now being taken to permanently repair the leak.

I have also made clear that I do not want this simply treated as another new leak report. I have asked Southern Water to review the history of the previous reports and provide a written response.

I appreciate residents continuing to flag this and report changes. I will keep a record of the outstanding issue and will provide a further update when I receive Southern Water’s formal response.

** UPDATE ** Water Leak 💧 Duncton A285

The drain leaking water at the bottom of the northside village hill has been rejected by Southern Water as an issue with their assets. This has now been reported to West Sussex County Council for investigation, including establishing who is responsible for any necessary repairs.

I hope to be able to provide a further update in the next few days.

Dry. Very Dry.

Wildfire risk remains high. If you spot an unattended fire, move to a safe place and call 999 immediately.

Help prevent fires by removing all litter and never lighting BBQs or fires in open countryside.

💧WATER LEAK REPORTED - A drain leak on the public footpath going to St Anthony & St George's church has been been reported to Southern Water. This is now trickling onto the main road coming up the hill into Duncton. Please take care if using this route to walk to the church/village hall. I will update with progress.

📢 Local Government Reorganisation Update
Today, the Government has announced that NO DECISION has yet been made on the future structure of local government in West Sussex.

A decision had been expected this summer, but it has now been delayed until October 2026.

What does this mean for residents?

There are no immediate changes to council services.
West Sussex County Council, Chichester District Council and Duncton Parish Council will all continue to operate as normal.
Elections to any new shadow council(s) are still expected in May 2027, with any new council arrangements currently planned to come into effect in April 2028.

Duncton Parish Council will continue to monitor developments and share updates as more information becomes available.

⚠️ Doorstep Crime Warning ⚠️
Residents are urged to remain vigilant following a recent increase in doorstep fraud - A current scam involves two males knocking on the doors of elderly residents, claiming to be from the council and stating that payment is required to fix drains. Victims are asked to hand over their bank card and PIN so that payment can be taken. The fraudsters then leave with the bank card.

There have been seven reported incidents across East, West and Mid Sussex this month, with losses exceeding £35,000.

Please remember:
• Councils do not collect payment in this way.
• Never hand your bank card or PIN to anyone.
• If you are unsure, close the door and contact the organisation directly using an official number.
• Check in with elderly relatives, friends and neighbours to ensure they are aware of this scam.

Please share this warning to help protect others in our community.
