Oh wow! It’s not just a ‘stoatitat’ - this large pile of logs is also a ‘hogitat’!

Build it and they will come 🦔❤️🦔

A cute little bird has just flown off to its new home. Love his sparkling eyes! Not creating as much at the moment but I do hope those days return ❤️

This little hoglet is 350g. He's only being seen at night and I am leaving plenty of food and water out.

It isn't time to be worrying yet about small hedgehogs found at night and whether they will survive Winter.

I will, however, be monitoring him.

The entrance to the feeding station is a good gauge of size. The larger adults that are visiting just touch the sides so you can see that he is a lot smaller.

It is also walking quite 'high' on its legs, which can be a sign of issues.

This little one was a lovely round shape when I weighed and checked it so nothing to be concerned about but definitely worth monitoring. It is great news that we have had hoglets here this year!

I am running a hibernation special course online on the evening of 4 November which will give tips for monitoring hedgehogs, helping them during this critical period and when they might be in need of rescue as the weather gets colder.

For now though, leave out plenty of food and water to help them get up to weight.

Oh yes, he does do a p**p in the box LOL!

Message me for more info about the hibernation course....

Stoat on the 'stoatitat' built to try and attract a stoat 🎉

It's a lovely pile of old logs (we try to avoid removing any dead material from site). There are plenty of hidey holes under here.

The stoat uses the ditch to travel between the North and South garden, which is exactly what the otter did and exactly why we wanted to open up the garden and remove the mesh fence that was keeping wildlife out!

They are super fast so hard to capture on film. You know it is a stoat because its tail isn't fully deep brown, it's half pale brown with a slightly fluffy dark brown tip.

Watch right to the end - you see it again!

HIBERNATION SPECIAL - HELPING WILD HEDGEHOGS IN WINTER

Join me just as it starts to get darker and colder on Wednesday 4 November for a the return of last year's popular short online course. We will focus on how to help hedgehogs over Winter.

We will cover:

🍂What is hibernation and why do hedgehogs hibernate
🦔Where do hedgehogs hibernate
🍂Choosing a hibernation box and where to position it
🦔What to put in your hibernation box
🍂When to provide food for hedgehogs over Winter
🦔Other ways to help hedgehogs in Autumn/Winter
🍂How to monitor hedgehogs over Winter - choosing a night camera and other methods
🦔What to do about small hedgehogs found at night when temperatures plummet - when to rescue
🍂What to do if you accidentally disturb a hibernating hedgehog

The content is all based on questions that I'm regularly asked at this time of year so I really hope you will find it useful.

A little walk through the gravel garden. I think this might be my favourite season with the grasses and other prairie style planting. It won’t need much watering once it’s established (it’s still less than a year old) and we collect water around the site too so it’s perfect for the changing climate. There are so many bees and butterflies still around. Do you like it?
