🇬🇧 HELP A VETERAN TURN A HOUSE INTO A HOME 🇬🇧

At Get Together After Serving CIC, we have today supported a veteran into accommodation. Whilst this is a huge positive step forward, they are now in urgent need of the basic household essentials many of us take for granted.

We're asking our amazing community to come together once again and help us turn an empty house into a home.

We are currently looking for donations of:

🛏️ Bedding (duvets, pillows, sheets, duvet covers)
🛁 Towels & flannels
🍽️ Plates, bowls & cutlery
☕ Mugs, cups & glasses
🍳 Pots, pans & cooking utensils
🧽 Cleaning supplies
🥫 Food storage containers
🏡 Small household essentials
🪟 Curtains & rugs
❤️ Other good-quality household items

Every item donated will make a real difference and help provide comfort, dignity and stability for a veteran starting a new chapter in life.

All items should be clean, safe and in good usable condition.

📍 Donations can be dropped off at Denehurst House, Denehurst Park, Rochdale or can collect today

With fireworks going off, we know this time of year can be difficult for some veterans. Sudden bangs and flashes can bring back memories or leave you feeling unsettled.

If you’re struggling or need some support, please reach out to GTAS. You don’t need to put on a brave face or find the perfect words — just let us know you’re having a tough time. 🤝

🎆 THINK BEFORE YOU LIGHT 🎆

As we approach fireworks season, we want to ask our community to take a moment and consider those who have served our country.

For many of us, fireworks are a celebration. But for our veterans, the sudden, unpredictable bangs, flashes, and smells of fireworks don't feel like a party. Instead, they can trigger severe PTSD, intense anxiety, panic, and vivid flashbacks of combat zones—essentially bringing the war back home into their living rooms.

Imagine living through those moments again and again, completely out of your control.

How you can help:
👉 Be mindful: If you’re planning on setting off fireworks, please let your neighbours know in advance so local veterans can prepare themselves and find a safe space.
👉 Attend public displays: Organised community events are much easier to plan around than unexpected back-garden fireworks.
👉 Keep it to the traditional dates: Restricting fireworks to the main celebratory nights helps reduce days of unexpected anxiety.

Let's show our veterans the respect and care they deserve. They fought for our peace—let's not take theirs away.

🇬🇧 GTAS WHAT’S ON | 2–8 NOVEMBER 🌺

A week of coming together, reflection and remembrance.

☕ Monday 2 November — Afternoon Tea Join us at Denehurst Café, 12:30–14:30. Booking required.

🌳 Wednesday 4 November — Remembrance & Reflection Walk A gentle amble around the park, with time to chat and remember loved ones. Meet at Denehurst Café at 12:15 for a 12:30 start.

🌺 Saturday 7 November — Remembrance Walk 2026 Meet at Middleton Cenotaph at 06:00 as we come together to honour and remember those who served.

🎖️ Sunday 8 November — Remembrance Sunday & Parade Join the community in Rochdale town centre as we pay our respects.

⚽ Sunday 8 November — GTAS Ladies Away Manchester Rovers Women v GTAS Ladies Kick-off 14:30. Let’s get behind our ladies!

⚽ FULL-TIME: HAGGATE 2–1 GTAS

🏆 League Cup

A hardworking performance from GTAS saw the lads narrowly miss out on the next round, with a late Haggate winner denying them a penalty shoot-out.

Haggate, who sit top of the division above GTAS, started brightly and took a 1–0 lead into the break after a scrappy first half.

The lads came out on the front foot in the second half, putting Haggate under sustained pressure. That effort paid off in the 55th minute, when Connor Girling produced a fine finish to bring GTAS level. 👏

The game then became a battle in the middle of the park, with neither side creating many clear chances. With around ten minutes remaining, Haggate broke down the left and found the winner.

A tough result to take, but plenty for the gaffer to build on. The lads showed real spirit, determination and togetherness to come from behind and push strong opposition all the way. 💪

Heads up, lads — a performance to be proud of.
