Did you know that the charity, in partnership with the Church, Stirling Heritage Alliance, manages three sites across Stirling? These include the Church of the Holy Rude, Legends at Cowane’s inside Cowane’s Hospital, and Legends at the Monument beneath the National Wallace Monument.

Today in 1936, the dividing wall that had, since 1656, split the congregation of the Church of the Holy Rude in two was finally brought down. The wall had been erected after disagreements between the two ministers, and with no resolution in sight, the only option was to divide the church into two separate congregations for nearly 300 years.

Did you know this church follows a cruciform layout—a classic feature of medieval architecture? Its transepts extend outward to form the shape of a cross, symbolising Christ’s sacrifice, the body of the Church, and the biblical tradition of orienting worship toward the rising light in the East.
