I thought I’d take a moment to reflect on & celebrate an incredible journey I’ve been on the last few months… is a photographer led print making studio that specialises in helping photographic practitioners and artists print their work for exhibtion, portfolios and editions.

The owner and the person who prints your work (and is writing this, so will go into first person from here on out) is … I have recently had the absolute privilege to work along side 19 amazing artists as part of East Meets West masterclass programme.

East Meets West is an initiative led by that supports emerging practitioners through a series of focused discussions with industry leaders helping drive their practice forward. This accumulated in an exhibition at Format Festival which I printed 16 of the cohorts works this was an absolute privilege, working with great photography is just a boon of the job.

The real sponsorship credit goes to they sponsored a roll of Bamboo Baryta Gloss.

This is a sustainable paper stock that has a visual texture, warm base, understated gloss and supreme gamut. It hit the mark whether it was portraits, landscapes, still life- what ever was offered to this paper it handled it beautifully & the end results were always visually tactile and immaculate. Furthermore the paper is physically robust and archival, making it prefect for editions.

I think I’ve found my new favourite paper stock, definitely the stock I want to present my current WIP on, and as Hatter Editions we will definitely be stocking it going forward.

This print is part of his ongoing body of work ‘Convolutions’ which is an introspective investigation of his place in the universe through the looking glass of recent health issues and the ebbs & flows they have presented during the non-linear & ongoing journey of recovery.

More printing for the Amoeba Exhibition.

This is .photo work taken over on the west coast of Ireland on Inis Mór. The work is an ongoing body of work looking into themes of heritage, community and memory (that’s the nutshell version, ask Nicole on the launch night for more details!)

AMOEBA is a group exhibition by photographers from across Greater Manchester.

The title of the show is inspired by community worker Tony Wright who said, ‘Community is an Amoeba, it can be anything you want it to be’.

This group of photographers have come together to create an exhibition exploring this idea as a way of
connecting, collaborating, sharing practice and learning from each other.

The exhibition is co-produced by , a specialist print lab based in Stockport and , a new creative and cultural space opening in Stockport’s Merseyway Shopping Centre in Spring 2025.

This project is part-funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The exhibition will be held

Launching 1st of November.

Experimenting with digital prints from negatives!

Did you know Hatter Editions started out as a darkroom practice? We ran two darkrooms, a dim room (for alt processes) and studios. We then became a hybrid studio and eventually, due to circumstances out of our control (landlords selling mill space to create houses 🙄) fully digital around 2 years back.

We still get our kicks out of all things analog… Infact we’re currently working on some R&D that could be launched as a service in the near future… watch this space!

Shots taken by our very own on HP5+ and developed in the studio favourite … printed digitally on Edition Etching.

Great working on this print for Ben Wright

Printed with a slight warm tone on Awagami Washi Bamboo 250gsm.

I love how the grain of the paper interacts with grain of the film and how detailed the moon is!

Ben opted in for our studio service, with a specific need of not wanting the highlights in the cliff to be too dark. This meant Lewis manually corrected densities to achieve the desired result including some localised work on the cliff face.

Why do I enjoy working with landscape & wildlife works?

Well it allows me to see places or things I don’t get to see often or at all! Photography is amazing for that really, across the spectrum!

I have always had a keen interest in natural history & geology… so getting to on making these editions and work with talented photographers really who can let me indulge in this lifelong curiosity is just a bonus of the job.

Great landscape work from & wonderful wildlife work from 👏🏻

Printed on a combination of Edition Etching & H**p.

We really enjoyed printing the work of this week.

Pleasure to see and print at some images from his archives.

Printed on to German Etching- a fine paper for the subtle texture and velvet feel in hand.

Surprise guest at the studio yesterday. checking out some of his astrophotography in print as well as having a natter about photography and the technical aspects of astrophotography. It’s not a point and shoot game and just like everything in the photography world- it contradicts what we know about photographing down here. A good example is; the darker it is- the shorter your overall exposure! 🫠

Test print was printed on Hanhenmühle Photorag Metallic. I knew when Greg told me he’s working on Astro that I personally wanted to see it on PhotoRag Metallic! I knew this secret sauce paper would render the void well while giving true fidelity to the colours of outer space. Creating a distinct 3D feeling to the over all shot. Now I just want to print them mural size!

Greg checking it out under different light before I trimmed it down & packed it up for him.
