This International Control Room Week, we're shining a spotlight on the dedicated teams at Staffordshire and West Midlands Fire Control, recognising the vital role they play in supporting our communities. πŸ§‘β€πŸš’πŸ€

From taking emergency calls and supporting callers in distress, to mobilising fire crews and coordinating resources, Fire Control plays an essential role in helping ensure every incident receives the right response across our service, as well as West Midlands Fire Service.

We're incredibly proud of our Fire Control teams. Thank you for all that you do πŸ™Œ

πŸ•―οΈπŸ‚ Keep the cosy vibes, lose the fire risk. This Candle Safety Week, we're sharing simple tips to help you stay safe.

πŸ§‘β€πŸš’ We recommended using LED candles instead of normal wax candles.
πŸ§‘β€πŸš’ Never leave candles, incense or Bukhoor unattended.
πŸ§‘β€πŸš’Keep them out the reach of children and pets.
πŸ§‘β€πŸš’Always use a holder or a burner.
πŸ§‘β€πŸš’Burners and holders should always be put on a flat, non-flammable surface and away from windows.
πŸ§‘β€πŸš’Keep clothing out the way of flames.
πŸ§‘β€πŸš’When you have finished with an incense stick, douse the tip in water and break it off. The remainder can be relit later.

⏰ Got a reminder in your diary to change the clocks this weekend?

Add one more thing to the list: test your smoke alarms! πŸ§‘β€πŸš’

A working smoke alarm gives you the earliest warning of a fire, helping you to get out, stay out and call 999.

It's quick, it's easy, and it could save lives.

The on-call crew at Kinver Community Fire Station have been putting in the work with some challenging Breathing Apparatus training recently! πŸ™Œ

They started by taking all of the hose reel off the drum and feeding the full length into the building, then manoeuvring it up the stairs and to the furthest point.

The team then located and rescued a 'casualty', before taking the main jet into the building (the bigger red hose). When full of water, these can be heavy and difficult to manoeuvre, making hose management and teamwork essential. πŸ§‘β€πŸš’

The session also included plenty of practice managing hose in challenging conditions, as well as revising procedures firefighters must follow if they become disorientated inside a building.

🌧️ With heavy rain and strong winds expected to continue across the county tonight and into the weekend, please take a moment to check who to contact in an emergency.

βœ… Flooding in your home or on the roads?
βœ… Fallen trees or debris blocking roads or on your own property?
βœ… Unsafe buildings or structures?

Only dial 999 if there’s immediate danger to life. ⚠️
Stay safe, plan ahead, and drive carefully.

We were called at 5.20pm on Monday (19 October) to a business on Fairway, Bridgtown, Cannock, following reports of smoke coming from a building.

A small fire was extinguished using a hose reel jet and the building was ventilated.

Thankfully, nobody was reported injured.

Station Manager Russ Brown attended the scene. He said: β€œAlthough the business was closed when this fire started, accidental fires can happen at any time. That’s why it’s important that businesses regularly inspect fire doors and have a suitable fire risk assessment."
